I signed up for this, posted twice, then realized how amazingly gay it was and ceased all activity. Fuck Twitter.

I've recently heard about this place, but decided not to look at the place because it sounded pretty fucking gay.

it's worse than myspace or facebook could ever be. it sends messages to people's cellphones.

Re: people that use twitter
a rant (which could be more clearly communicated and/or brief, but then i've never been particularly skilled at clarity or succinctness) on the topic of facebook statuses:
i am going to have some serious words with whoever in my family is responsible for getting the older generations on there.
as a general observation, there is no shortage of people who are rather critical of users of these services (and i'm not dismissing these criticisms, mind you). these criticisms typically involve jabs at users' tendency to publish and promote banality, completely inconsequential fragments of information that nobody could possibly care about, so forth and so on -- i'm sure you all get the gist. this sometimes segues into an argument about the general lack of quality people in the younger generations (again, i want to stress that i am not disputing these assumptions) and much old-man-ranting ensues.
but the thing is this: that general lack of awareness that plagues users of sites like facebook, the complete obliviousness that the minutiae of their daily lives just aren't that important, didn't simply wink into existence out of nowhere. no, that behavior was learned, my dear friends. handed down from previous generations to the younger folks that comprise the vast majority of these social networks.
this of course isn't exactly a startling revelation or a profound insight, but it's not something i often see discussed. i would guess chiefly because the lineage is hard to trace in a concrete fashion -- the folks growing up in the 60's didn't have computers to archive their thoughts in perpetuity, no social networking websites to provide them with the outlets that we have available now. some of those members of the older generation however, have realized that anyone is free to access the outlets we have available now, they have the ability to stay in touch with a wide network of friends and family. a channel by which they can engage in meaningful communication, disseminate their wisdom to the younger generations.
yes, seeing the incredible potential of a service like this, the older generations are beginning to invade sites like facebook to set things right... and i'll be goddamned if they don't squander that potential any worse than those damned kids they're always whingeing about. in fact, they're far worse about it than even the worst offenders i've seen (and i have seen some bad ones, rest assured). there is just a never-ending stream of pointless posts and updates from my older relatives, several per day, and all of them stupid (e.g., and i'm paraphrasing here of course, "my 18 year old cat is horrendously sick and should be dead now, but we're going to give him IV fluids at home and keep him alive and suffering for as long as possible because we love him so much!").
i'm perfectly aware that i can just filter them out, but that doesn't eliminate the problem. in fact, the problem can't be eliminated -- it's already been transferred to the current generations. ultimately there probably isn't much point to this (you can point out the irony if you'd like, but i am already aware), other than that it is nice to have some kind of a concrete link, evidence, that the younger generations aren't entirely to blame for this stupidity.
it reminds me of this old PSA, around the time when 'this is your brain, this is your brain on drugs' was the latest and greatest. a father is demanding answers from his son, after discovering a box full of what was supposed to be a cornucopia of illegal drugs but really looked like an assortment of candy (at least in my hazy recollection) and the exchange went something like:
"WHERE DID YOU GET THESE. WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO DO THOSE DRUGS"
"I LEARNED IT BY WATCHING YOU, DAD"
you know what, fuck you, older generation. i'm compiling a list of all these stupid goddamned updates, printing them out, and interjecting the moment someone goes off on a kids-these-days tangent at the next family gathering.

the way i remember it, there were joints in there but also like brightly colored pills that looked really appealing. clearly though, the version i've retained does not reflect the actual version

oh fuck yeah, i did a search for anti-drug PSA's and this was the very first hit on google

it's far too fuzzy to tell exactly what's in the box, but i suppose at any rate we can rule out candy-colored anythings
