Re: Now Eating
I've recently discovered the benefits of beets and garlic. Garlic is best raw, possibly my favourite seasonings at the moment. I put it on most of my meats. Beets remind me of potatoes in texture, flavor is kinda bland but I can overlook that by adding cheese to it.

leftover brisket
vegetable garden is going well, haven't really bought greens in over the past month and roasted beetroot is awesome, tomatoes will be ripe soon so they'll be added in

Re: Now Eating
been rocking the chili verde stew i made a few nights ago. i am enjoying this instant pot dealie, lots of low-effort good quality meals to be had after living off sandwiches and wraps and delivery for a year
2lbs pork shoulder, cubed
4-5 little tomatillos, quartered
a big cubanelle
a big poblano
a regular jalapeno
a small white onion
a few whole cloves of garlic
some cumin & some kosher salt
chop it all up, toss it in the pressure cooker for 30 minutes. fish the pork out, use an immersion blender to finish the broth, mix in a bit of fresh cilantro and recombine. insane flavor to effort ratio, god damn

Re: Now Eating
also been making yogurt with whole milk and half & half. that's been my usual breakfast + lunch at work for the last couple of years.
i portion it out and throw in a single sugar packet to sweeten it a bit and mix in fresh fruit, it's cheap (one batch lasts me about a week and a half and costs about $8 in materials, vs $20-25 buying individually packaged for a 1.5 week supply) and delicious and nutritious

Poffertjes with syrup They look like just miniature pancakes but they have their right to belong and be their own thing. They should be served with butter and sugar but I don't have that. Also they are prefab but I don't have my own poffertjes pan :(

Re: Now Eating
I'm eating a dish from the woman in the video below, and holy shit is this good! She cooks Sri Lankan style food twice per week in two seatings each night at a little diner right outside my living room.
Unfortunately aside from the pork and green beans (which seem to have been seasoned with cinnamon) I don't really know what I'm eating I've never tasted anything quite like this, but I'm definitely going to be getting Saturday reservations pretty regularly now. I'm also looking forward to bringing a fellating lover from work there once they dining in is allowed again.

Re: Now Eating
I just finished chicken curry from a nearby Indian place that always gets good reviews. It was pretty good, but I was expecting it to be garnished with lots of vegetables the way Thai and Vietnamese dishes I've gotten always seem to be. Instead it was just chicken, sauce, and rice which was kind of a letdown.

Re: Now Eating
I tried a green curry at a Vietnamese place yesterday, and while it was good it was too creamy. I was looking for sharper flavors. I later read in reviews that they make a point to Americanize their dishes, so it made sense.
I went to the grocery store today and picked up a few sticks of lemongrass and I'm really liking how it adds to what I just made (basically a breakfast burrito in a bowl). My first furlough project might be growing some of my own herbs - especially now that I no longer have a cat to ruin them - with that being one of them.
Edit:
Since I'm bored, this is exactly what I just made, all mixed in two bowls:
Chorizo sausage
sauteed bell peppers/zucchini
green onions
smashed/minced lemon grass
grated garlic
diced Roma tomatoes
spinach
salsa verde heated in a skillet with two beaten eggs for about 15 seconds
sour cream
hot sauce
cheddar cheese in one bowl and Munster in the other

Made a tenderloin and sautéed some mushrooms and onion to go with it. And a side of sautéed spinach with tissue garlic and pepper flakes. Full as a cunt in this period.
