After a war these Papuans count casualties and then kill among their group to settle scores. In this way making the number of dead even :bulb: This seems a fair deal, a tip for the UN maybe :bulb:

The ending of that one is tattooed into my mind. Was it used for any of the films? It's beautifully written, but visually I think it would be kind of clunky.

I've been re-reading parts of Blood Meridian after discussing it with a fellating lover at work. I should probably find out if he actually wants to borrow it because I always worry that when I lend someone a book they'll feel obligated to read it regardless of how much free time they have, and then for whatever reason before finally handing it off I always develop a strong desire to re-read it.

Some day I'll pull out a dictionary and look up the hundreds of words in that one that I've never even seen before (most are contextually obvious) but for now I'm content following the narrative on a basic level and being in awe over every aspect of the delivery.

i finished reading the handmaid’s tale yesterday

the epilogue is intensely unnecessary and unsatisfying but everything that came before the epilogue is the exact opposite of those two things

i will be reading more books by margaret atwood now

In the rare occasion I hear anything about A Confederacy of Dunces it's given tons of praise and regarded as hilarious. Has anyone here read it? I was thinking of ordering a copy, but I'm hesitant to buy more books given that I still have a few sitting around that I haven't gotten to yet.

i don't have any input on that book

but i am absolutely shaken by the fact that i had k-punk, city & great transformation in 2018. i have not finished any of them. also added jia tolentino's trick mirror & matt stoller's goliath to the list of "books i have acquired and started and will probably never finish" though what little i've read of both are wonderful

leadership in turbulent times

by doris kearns goodwin

it is a worthwhile book, even if it is a reshaping and repackaging of several of her other thoroughly good books
