so the movers lost our fridge in the move, because they a) had to switch trucks halfway, for dumb reasons and b) are apparently incompetent

this didn't bother us too much, as the house we moved into already had a fridge

and they were going to reimburse us about $750, so, no big deal

but then they found our fridge, mysteriously, and delivered it yesterday

we decided to plug it in in the garage and keep all the beer out there, and all the delicious homemade stock in the freezer

so now we have a beer fridge

first deposit coming later today

there was a mixup with the trucks in california and they had to rent two smaller trucks, load everything onto them, then reload everything onto a single truck and ship it out here

the movers who loaded the two trucks there and the movers who unloaded the one truck here were not the same people who reloaded everything onto a single truck in the middle. both of those sets of movers were great fellows

so i am choosing to blame this mysterious middle party for the muddle

At the absolute max it should be about 1/3 or maybe even 1/4 of that.

we just paid a little over 40% of that estimate to move all of our shit across the entire goddamn country the long way. we do not have 3600 square feet worth of stuff (though, books), but there is just no goddamn way that your mom has so much more stuff than us by weight that moving from kansas to north dakota costs well over twice what it cost us to move basically from coast to coast

Drive 1 car and tow the other either behind your car or hook it onto the moving truck. Unless you have some vintage cars that require special transport I just don't see how it would cost that much. If it's that much of a pain in the ass I would be tempted to sell one of the cars to help fund the move.

shit it would be cheaper to drive one car to fargo, take someone back with you in a separate car, and drive the second car back while the person who came with you drives the separate car back

like, even factoring in the incredible waste of time that would be it would be orders of magnitude cheaper to do it that way

I had a 50% discount on beer a few months ago through work and stocked up on a shitload of beer (about $300 worth) that I've been storing in a large cooler in the garage (the insulation of the cooler kept the temp in check even without ice). today I put the last 6 pack in the fridge from that purchase. 'tis a sad day.
