you would kill your computer
this had something to do with the way macs access drivers instead of files, and all drivers begin with a period, and ".sony" was the name of the driver that controlled your hard drive or disc drive or something
so if you gave a file that name, the computer would think the file was actually in charge of some piece of hardware, fail upon startup, and never start up properly again
i never tried this, though i wanted to
and, though i doubt that it is, i have no idea if it's true anymore

i used to cause havoc on the mac network in high school but i never knew that trick
read/write access to every computer in the district was fun though the admin never figured it out until i disclosed it before graduation

i remember reading it in the computer room in illinois, so it was definitely true around 1996
however, as i mentioned above, i have no idea when this stopped being true, or whether it is still true today
