there is a great big backyard and it backs up to a park :ba: gonna be lots of running around laughing hysterically times in the coming years

also the front yard is tiny and rather steep and somewhat useless for playing, so i am going to take it over and put in raised beds for a terraced garden :llama:

I misread the title as buying a horse :tvrky:

The purchase of a house is also commendable. If the housing market ever goes into another tailspin and I manage to remain employed I'll definitely be on the look out for one of these things.

Oh you know it will - it’s only a matter of time before it crashes again though it probably won’t be as bad as 2008.

Buy a house and treat it as a place to live and raise a family - you can always sell down the road if you need to. You’ll be fine. But buy a house as an investment? you’re gonna get burned.

What if you buy it as a crack house?

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but a crack cabin would be fantastic.

You'd be surprised how it's totally the other way around over here.

that would be amazing but athens would be about a 160-mile round-trip commute for meine wife so we will be living on the other side of the state :santa:

Well that’s not to say that buying a house isn’t an investment in and of itself.

I was more referring to people that get into the house flipping game. There was a point a decade ago where they were quite literally just selling to each other - and sure a few made out like bandits but whoever was left holding the bag per say got screwed hardcore. Not to mention people that bought when prices were really high but couldn’t really afford the mortgage that were pressured into doing so because they saw it as a get rich(er) quick scheme (“oh sure it’s at the top of your budget - but just think in 5 years you can sell it, buy a nicer house and make a tidy little profit in the process”)

If you buy a house as a rental (income) property you might do okay... if you do all the repairs and maintenance yourself anyways. Otherwise, nope.

Agreed. What I know in the US is that buying a house and lot nowadays and maintaining it costs an arm and a leg and it's simply not worth it.

Over here, a lot of foreign companies are setting up shop. As a result, a lot of foreign executives are buying properties within the Manila metro area. They're enjoying the Philippine exchange rate which works to their advantage. Upscale houses within gated communities are selling like pancakes here.

Rent in my city is getting ridiculous. It'd probably cost me about $600 more a month to rent a house.
