I'm thinking about finding one and paying them an exorbitant sum of money to tell me what my fucking problem is.

Anybody ever done this?

Just annoy a New Yorker and start some shit with him:

“Hey buddy! You know what you’re fucking problem is!? I’ll tell you! You’re....”

I went for one visit with two different therapists about ten years ago. The first one felt several sessions would be necessary to get to the bottom of what I told her, but that wasn't possible because I was just about to move. The next one wouldn't go beyond one session until I began taking the SSRI she prescribed almost immediately after meeting me, which I was not ok with.

I was pretty close to discussing a couple issues with a nearby therapist not too long ago, but I haven't gotten around to reaching out to her.

I generally agree with the above post about talking things through with family and friends, but I get the feeling that there is a time and place for discussing certain issues with a third party who doesn't have the same type of emotional investment.

a fellating lover who won't fall for your bullshit (and will call you out on it) is generally the type to talk to about personal issues i think, rare is such a relationship though

however psychs are probably good for some people because some people aren't even aware of what the cause of their issues is and need help actually identifying the cause

i don't know i work with computers not people :alien:

There's also the issue of close friends and family (particularly siblings) having a lot going on with careers and raising a family to the point where as much as they would probably insist on lending an ear it quickly becomes obvious that they have enough going on in their life as it is. Plus I can see how getting the perspective of someone who has no connection with your sphere of friends, family and co-workers could be beneficial.

Not that I'm intent on sitting down with someone, but I will say that it was refreshing to read some of the bios and approaches of some of the therapists that are in my insurance network, because it is very different from the "medicate them now and ask questions later" approach I briefly witnessed in college.
