Spicy pork spareribs
Chinese buttered fried chicken
Yang chow fried rice
Almost any roast pork with rice dish
Beef with brocolli and mushrooms in oyster sauce
Peking duck (gotta try this with the wraps)
Pork siomai (dimsum potstickers)
Beef wanton noodle soop
Crabs fried in salted egg sauce

Not sure if those are available in american chinese restaurants though

It’s actually really hard to find good Chinese food in America - unless you live somewhere that actually has a sizable Chinese population... Most places are absolute crap. But once you do find a good place - awww yeah.
I usually go for a Szechuan or Mongolian dish with whichever meat I feel like at the moment.

There don't seem to be any good Chinese restaurants around where I live. I have tried a few because the menus are always the size of a phone book so there are plenty of dishes I know I would like, but it's always low quality.

For whatever reason there are a handful of very good Vietnamese places that are fantastic. Obviously not the same, but close enough for when I'm in the mood for something that isn't pizza, a sandwich or a burger.

it's always puzzled me - I've never had an issue finding really good Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese restaurants but for some reason good Chinese is just hard to come by.

Not sure which platform I saw it on, but there was a news story in the past couple years of a couple American guys who started an American style Chinese restaurant in one of the big Chinese cities, and it was a smash hit from day one.

I guess the idea came from the fact that they would travel to China on business but were never able to find the type of Chinese food they were familiar with from back home. I'm convinced I've never even had a solid plate of traditional Chinese food, so I'm not sure what to make of this.

you're probably right - I know authentic Chinese food is different than what they serve here but it seems strange that it's not at least attempted - most just push the Americanized crap.

not to say that some of the Americanized crap can't be good.
