Re: it's time we outlaw leaf blowers
I have an electric one that while loud it's not nearly as loud as the gas ones.
I only use it to clear off the driveway / pathways / street after mowing the yard.
using one to just blow leaves around the yard is fucking retarded - that's what rakes are for.

I just mow them if I can - they get chopped into tiny pieces.

Re: it's time we outlaw leaf blowers
While in the lunchroom at work today there was a copy of consumer reports magazine on one of the tables, so I started flipping through it. When I landed on the article about leaf blowers I started laughing and couldn't really explain why when asked what was so funny
Kind of a cool magazine, by the way. I don't generally buy or update most of the stuff they review, but I'm thinking of getting my parents a subscription for Christmas. Seems like something they would enjoy, and then of course I could flip through it when I visit

Same here. My parents got us a subscription as a gift last year. They come in the mail but I don’t bother to read them.morbid board eli wrote:

Re: it's time we outlaw leaf blowers
They make sense if you're getting up there in age and have a big yard with a lot of deciduous trees in it and around the perimeter. My parents have this and raking every year got to be too much for them. Luckily those landscaping conditions also make it hard to bother any neighbors with the noise. They can hardly even see any other houses through the forest.

Re: it's time we outlaw leaf blowers
another option is to not rake and instead let the leaves decay and fertilize the soil like they are god damn supposed to

Re: it's time we outlaw leaf blowers
That doesn't work when you have as many trees as they do. It's either don't rake and then watch the grass rot and die in the spring, or rake and keep it around. This happened to my sister's lawn, and a far off part of my parents' lawn that they finally gave up on suffered the same fate.
Luckily they're downsizing in the next year and moving a few miles up the road to a place 1/3 the size.
