I made it through season six, but then I lost the free HBO I was getting from a fellating lover. I obviously enjoyed it enough to have made it that far in the series (I think I did so over the span of a few months) but I wasn't terribly disappointed to have not been able to continue it for free and didn't care enough at the time to pay for the new season.

Maybe this winter I'll get the online version of HBO for a while and catch up on what I missed :santa:

i read the books in 2000, well up until the fourth one anyway

i watched season one

and now i am watching season eight with a seasoned TV series fan who has not read the books

so my viewing experience is super weird and filled with holes and remembrances

season 8 is well past the end of the books. my understanding is GRRM provided some general guidance on where the story should go but it's mostly been weiss & benioff's thing since it passed the last book. this season has been remarkably bad, i am anticipating a disappointing conclusion

I don't think it's been as bad as people all over the internet are claiming although the last episode felt odd and rushed. I really enjoyed the prelude to the battle episode and the battle itself featured some amazing scenes. Who could complain about a 70 odd minute battle against death on screen? I don't really give a shit that Sam probably should have died in it ect. It's a fucking tv show. The episode itself left me with a feeling of exhaustion afterward. The one before that, a feeling of dread. I would argue half of the speculating and people getting their hopes up after every episode plays a large role in their disappointment too. That and the bar being set high in earlier seasons obviously. Surely it's not as bad as many are making it out to be? Why even bother watching it then if you no longer enjoy it?? (This isn't about you specifically Hitoshura).

I get the feeling they tried to just get that last episode over and done with in order to proceed with the final battle and what's to follow asap, which is poor form but to say this season is just shit seems a bit ridiculous. It's almost become a meme - "bad writing". Tell HBO who seemed to be rushing it directly, write something better or just stop fucking watching it if you don't enjoy it. If it's a shit ending to the program, so be it. He have all wasted countless hours on a tv program that we mainly enjoyed.

Sorry for the lengthy post lads. Also, I haven't read the books.

The last episode was so-and-so but the battle of ice and fire was awesome. The Dothraki were dumb though, fucking savages.

fucking agreed - tired of all the hate

i just wish there were a few more episodes because they do feel a little rushed and there are a lot of stories to finish up. either way, i'm glad i started watching and i'm happy the show is coming to a close rather than go the path of something like the walking dead.

i get chafing at the "ahhhh itchy strikes the same rib twice in succession yet produces two different notes" type of pedantry, but what the fuck was defensible about like, any of the major plot points or character developments in episode 4 in particular

This season overall is good but not up to previous seasons. Just wish they did a full 10 episodes, at least 8. Nothing will top 1-4.

subverting expectations by ending the series that upends the fanciful optimistic conventions of popular fantasy with... planting the seeds of liberal democracy? lol ok

does it shock anyone to learn that benioff comes from a family of billionaires. his dad was a C-suite exec at goldman and his cousin is the fucking salesforce hard-on bearer. i never knew he was a failson until a week ago but the trajectory of the last few seasons actually makes a lot more sense to me, in light of that

I was actually laughing when Bran said "why do you think I came all this way?" because that was basically a kick in the face for the entire show.

Overall, it's an okay ending. It's better than the previous episode for sure and I did like how the final scene alludes to the first scene of the first episode of Season 1.
