I'm still pretty much in my day job as a graphic designer for the marketing and communications department of an American financial services company (we deal with SIFMUs, securities, trade repositories, etc.). The pay is good and the benefits are amazing; I can work remotely for as long as I want. I may stick around for a while. I'm in the process of reviving my freelance design jobs which I'm doing on the side. With that combined with my day job, I'm hoping to raise enough funds to buy my own house.

So far so good, no loans/debts that I have to pay (having no kids ensures this ). Just my annual personal insurance plan where I pour in my annual bonus.

what's buying real estate like around manila? or would you go further afield? i have family connections with the Philippines but still never visited

Real estate is definitely more affordable outside Manila. A decent place in Manila’s upper class communities will cost you around USD$ 660,000, more or less. That includes living in a gated community with guards roving around and shit. Of course, a home with lower standards will cost less.

that is literally the extent of what I do. I'm not complaining, I have money in the bank and adore my solitude. I'm content in my seinfeld episode of nothingness, but after reading lukes plan for the next few years, I feel extremely inadequate

i am in a weird place. life is stable, but i have tired of everything. work has no surprises left, games are as stagnant as ever, i have no inspiration, social life has shrunk as marriages and kid-having exploded. i am not particularly bitter about that, it just sucks to lose that outlet. five year anniversary is coming up at work, supposedly there is a new position in store for me, but if it's on the same payscale i'll start looking outside. been marginally involved with a new lady recently but she is a tough nut to crack and anyway it probably won't go anywhere, she's mega sharp and i'm the same dullard i've always been.

new apartment soon; same address, just more space to cram all the stupid clothes and other possessions i've amassed. none of this is building towards anything and the west has doomed the entire planet to boiling seas, we're past the point of no return so what's the fucking point of anything really

shadowalk i slept with the grand total of two burmese women before finding the new girlfriend last november. we've been together a year now, she is from india but we live far apart so mostly do holidays and stuff, now we are figuring out if we can level up the relationship or not. she is applying for jobs at harvard, singapore, yale etc. she will finish her phd before me and i only need to write so it make sense to follow her, but i'm not really sure if it's the right thing to do ... i mean then i basically go into a marriage scenario. i like long intense periods with her and then long intense periods not with her-- i haven't lived with a chick for three years now

The marriage needs to be thought over and over before making a decision. This is your personal freedom we're talking about.

I'm in kind of the same place, at least in terms of not really having any surprises left at work. There is upward mobility there, but I don't want any more responsibility or longer hours because I don't need the money and the challenge there would be more of dealing with problems caused by dumb people rather than perfecting a skill set. I'm content with what I do in the sense that some days I have a lot of fun on the job, but I don't look forward to heading off to work and seeing what I'm made of the way I used to. The most recent wave of new hires is what has kept me around. Awesome group of misfits from all walks of life.

Meanwhile a close fellating lover (we have a bizarre history) is staying with me, but that should probably come to an end sooner than later. I love seeing him every day but I think the living arrangement is ultimately unhealthy for both of us. I'll probably have to reach out to his mother to get an honest idea of where he's at financially (he works and was supposed to have gotten a large inheritance by now) and talk about whether living alone is something he can pull off. There's that and it turns out my father is in the mid stages of Parkinson's (thankfully therapy for this has come a long way) so I'm hesitant to make any big moves and generally grateful for what I have.

I knew the singer was from Vermont because abzu mentioned it a few times. Just assumed the rest of the band was as well I guess.

What I need:
Do more fitness and yoga to be in a much better shape.
Save money to move and buy a house.

What I want:
More mushing training with my dog this season and participate in our first race next season.
Take a 2 week trip to Norway.
More Krav Maga.

Got plenty of other things on my mind but those are probably the main focus points for me.

back to australia in a week for christmas, woo. i bought myself three new leather jackets during a flash sale. normal price is ~$600 per jacket but got them for $229 each, then 15% off for buying three, so $585, then 10% off for paying using bank deposit so $525, that is aussie dollars so like $450 US dollars for the three jackets. now i just hope they fit me
