anyone else make their own damn pizza?
I recently started making my own pizza at home. it's deceptively easy and actually not that expensive to do so - especially if you plan it out and use ingredients from other things you cook that week (you usually only need a handful of X,Y,Z for toppings). you can usually buy pre-made dough from the store for a couple of dollars (just have to roll it out and toss it - honestly not that hard once you get the hang of it) or make the dough yourself. a pizza stone and a peel are a must have though.
so far i've made the following, all mozzarella and tomato sauce based:
classic pepperoni
Pepperoni with basil
pepperoni with mushrooms
pepperoni with black olives
onion, garlic, basil and balsamic reduction
garlic, basil, roasted tomatoes, and balsamic reduction
onion, garlic, fig spread, feta, and balsamic reduction
sausage and mushrooms
broccoli rabe, sausage, garlic
I want to try some more varied stuff next like Buffalo or meat bath chicken or Hawaiian pizza.
and no Ryan, mayonnaise is not a pizza topping.

i have been making it the pizzas since i was a kid, nothing beats doing it your own way. i don't know about that thing you refer to where you buy the dough then roll it out, in australia and asia you basically have the choice of buying bases or making the base yourself, no in-between. obviously making your own dough is 200% way better, you can use wholemeal flour, add the right ratio of fat, salt etc.

Pre-made just means it’s dough that’s already been mixed and formed into a ball. you just need to bring it to room temperature and roll it out with a rolling pin (I actually just use a glass cup) on a cutting board with some flour. They sell them here in bakeries and/or grocery stores for fairly cheap. I have an electric mixer but I’m honestly terrible at baking so I usually just go for the convenience route - rolling out dough is easy enough for the quality you get in return.

you know, the big (usually) wooden spatula like thingy that you use to move the pizza from the pizza stone in the oven.

Who needs dough when you you can buy french bread and cut it in half, add marinara and cheese, spot it with pepperoni and bake it. It's worth a shot if you need a quick pizza fix.

You know what works well too is naan. Since it’s alrady cooked you only need to pop it in the oven with the toppings for like 10 minutes.Dr. Gonzo wrote:Who needs dough when you you can buy french bread and cut it in half, add marinara and cheese, spot it with pepperoni and bake it. Naan reminds me of Indian fry bread. Never thought of using it for pizza. Good suggestion.

My grandmother once mentioned to me how she and her brother got certified to drive back in what must have been the mid to late 30's: they were each required to drive down the block, make a U-turn and come backHitoshura wrote:every time i read this threat title i think of daryl perry on drivers licenses

As for pizza I only made my own once about ten years ago. From what I remember it turned out ok, so laziness must have set in. There's a few at the link below that I could see myself trying:

Aside from that Lasagna is probably the closest dish to homemade pizza that I've stuck with over the years.
