Re: Joker
I don't care about the rivalry either, but I do care about the movie not being absolute dog shit.

another way to put this is ‘any joker movie without batman in it is as unhelpful as a pencil in the eye’

Re: Joker
Just got home from this. If Phoenix doesnt win an Oscar for his performance it will be a travesty.

Re: Joker
I am seeing reports that people have been walking out of theaters because it was ‘too dark and disturbing’.
Not sure if they’re all satirical or just exaggerated but given the times, somehow i wouldn’t be surprised if it’s all true.
Anyway, i am excited to see this.

Re: Joker
Yeah it’s definitely dark and fucked up. That’s why it’s actually good unlike most fantasy superhero movies. There were two scenes where I laughed but didn’t hear any others laugh. Knowing you shadowalk, you’ll dig it quite a bit I think.shadowalk wrote:I am seeing reports that people have been walking out of theaters because it was ‘too dark and disturbing’.

Re: Joker
I just watched it. Best movie of the year so far for me. I especially like how it gets better throughout the film and I like the allusions to the Batman storyline.
Also, this just popped onto my newsfeed. I liked the NY times FB page not because I believe their articles but they're so dedicated to 'wokeness' that I get the giggles just by reading the headlines...this being one of those headlines.

i'm not sure that's what's happening here, particularly since the person who wrote this article is not a movie criticshadowalk wrote:There's spoilers in the article but it's basically another case of critics getting desperate for something negative about the film so they pull the race card.

according to a six-second google search he is a philosophy professor specializing in race, so it would be inaccurate to say he thinks he is a movie reviewer and more accurate to say he is using a movie to talk about race, his area of expertise

Re: Joker
This was great Never liked the Batman, know all rich kid Ignoring the super hero stuff you could just consider this drama. Joaquin Phoenix in a leading role gave me a push to go see this. The forced laugh/cry bits were disturbing Like jorsh said there were some laughs too but sometimes that seemed wrong. In that sense they brought Joker's awkwardness to the audience Now Joker 2

Re: Joker
neither. My order is:
1. The Lighthouse
2. Joker
3. Once Upon a Time in Holywood
4. The Irishman
5. I Trapped the Devil
I still haven’t seen parasite or uncut gems yet so my top 5 could and will probably change.
