Been driving 16 years and on the lookout for a new car, as my Scenic is dying. The turbo is going on it.

Nissan thing. I know a few of the nissan dealerships around here have dudes who do nothing but work on transmissions exclusively.

well I've put on 7K since I bought it - just put some new tires and break pads on it - i'll have to keep an eye on the transmission.... thanks for the heads up.

Been driving for around 12 years now.

Drove my old man’s 1991 Toyota Crown when I started. After that, the mother gave me her old 1996 Nissan Sentra and I used that throughout the end of my college years and through my first few years of work.

I just got a 2019 Hyundai Accent last week and that’s what I drive now.

I've heard the same thing about newer Nissans online and from some mechanics at my work. It sounds like if you change the transmission fluid much more frequently than is recommended then things can work out just fine, but only if you do it early enough. I guess after a certain point it's better just to leave the fluid as it is and try not to drive too aggressively.

I have a '07 Hyundai Tuscon I bought used in early 2013 with about 93k miles on it. It has about 136k miles on it now and still runs fine with no major repairs needed. I've been thinking of preemptively getting a newer used car, but it's hard to part ways with one that has been so reliable and doesn't have all that computerized safety shit that I don't want.

On a somewhat related note I was surprised that my dad couldn't seem to wrap his head around why it wouldn't make much sense for me to buy a brand new car given that I only drive about 7k miles per year and park on the street in Minneapolis.

Are we talking manufactured or Asian brand? Cause the only American brand car you can really get anymore is Ford/Chevy/Dodge and those are shitboxes unless you want a truck.

even for trucks they are shit nowadays. (unless you can score one that was made in the 90's/very early 2000's that's had good upkeep). you're better off buying a Toyata.

Ford isn't the worst if you stay away from the aluminum body bullshit. Dodge are great up until 70k-80k when the transmission issues kick in. I don't know of any real issues with the Chevy's at the moment.

The biggest issue with Toyotas is the material they made the frames from. They've had a campaign going to spray the underside if there's no holes in the frame, If they find holes they end up replacing the entire frame. The new round of these just started and it's probably cost Toyota a few hundred million to get it fixed. Not to mention the airbag/inflator replacements are still going on

similarly a large chunk of euro & asian cars sold here are manufactured domestically. they're just mostly based in southern states where unionizing is effectively illegal.

Is there anything I can do to help possibly prevent issues? How certain is it? It’s got 64,000 miles on it right now. I made an appointment Friday to get the tranny flushed along with my oil change. Will a tranny flush help? Is it even necessary?

I honestly don't know where the failure comes with Nissan transmissions. What I do know is they have techs who do nothing but work on transmissions at the dealerships around here. I'm sure if you took a look around on some car forums you'd find an answer. Sorry I ain't no help on this one lummo :santa:
