Re: coronavirus in this region
MN governor declared a shelter in place the other day, which as far as I can tell didn't change anything.
I had the day off work and since it was pretty nice out for early spring I decided to go for a walk around some nearby lakes. While people were walking noticeably farther apart, I don't think I've ever seen that many people on the paths in the seven years I've lived in the area. I also noticed people taking walks through a huge nearby cemetery. I was doing that long before social distancing

According to Hogan and his new exeutive order it'll be a misdemeanor with possible fine of $5k fine and year in jail. But it's not very clear on what his stay at home order is. He's handled shit pretty well but this one is a real head scratcher from what I've seen.Skinfection wrote:Saw a cop pull into a park yesterday and kick everyone out. While I still fully support burning the church to the ground, at least local law enforcement took action against this douchebag:

They started doing it here as well. It’s kind of funny because normally a lot of these parks are mostly empty - suddenly they are filled with people! Morons.

I am officially out of work thanks to covid. They are closing all the physical locations and switching to strictly internet sales. Was told the job is mine if I want when they reopen, I am skeptical they keep my location open though . Besides that my job prospects ain't shit unless I wanna go rock a retail job which won't be happening unless I absolutely have to.

March is usually the start of the busy season for RV stuffs. A lot of the stuff we did this month was carry over from February. Which we only had because they were so far behind from not having anyone to file warranty shit.

Get on that unemployment bandwagon. My wife was also laid off from her job and took a week to register online for unemployment but was finally able to do so Monday morning. Interesting times indeed.

Yeah the system here was upgraded after the 2008 recession but it was designed to handle “a burst water pipe - not a Tsunami”. So delays were expected. She even tried at 3 am one day and still no luck. Finally tried at 7am on Monday and was able to get it done. Just gotta keep at it - hopefully Maryland is in a better position.

Re: coronavirus in this region
another day of 'ok i should definitely take a break tonight' once again torpedoed by 'ah fuck the number's really going up at an alarming rate'
today my work offered what amounted to a $100/week hazard pay stipend to return to the office on monday (because i'm not able to operate remotely at full capacity; most remote workers will stay remote for the time being), but i was given 2 hours to decide. i would very much like the money but declined the offer, we just had a mass die-off in the last day -- a third of all recorded covid deaths in the state in a 24 hour span. mostly just desperately hoping they're going to continue to leave it as an option
not gonna lie this is all starting to really fuck me up, despite being in a pretty good position in the main

They've got this under control. The US doesn't. Be introspective and vote properly to get your dumbass president out of the way. Half the problems are because he didn't see a problem at all - he wasted precious weeks thinking this was just a flu. He's fiddling around while Rome burns. Cuomo has a grip on this thing, bag of diarrhea inside another, bigger bag of diarrhea doesn't.

Since last week, the Duterte administration has been giving out food packs and 'acceptable' compensation for the low-income (blue collar) sector. Last I heard, the food packs consists of a few kilos of rice, canned sardines and instant noodles. It's not much but at least it can help folk who live by their daily wages.

The unemployment office out here serves literally the whole state, and only gives you a four hour gay man's telescope to call and actually speak to a representative. So needless to say it's been literally impossible to get through.

fuck, sorry to hear about the job woes guys really hope you're able to hang on but the sudden benefit cuts don't sound promising.
my brother is most likely going to be laid off tomorrow. even though his sector (medical devices) really shouldn't suffer over the long term, apparently the parent company is considering shuttering the whole operation for good. utterly stupid, but i suppose they have an eye to all the PE vulture funds that will be gorging on the fed's 4.5tn lending facility to help the most powerful corporations on the planet swallow up what's left of the global economy. shore up the balance sheet for q2 with a quick fire sale and tout all the savings on labor to win the praise of all the stock analysts. his wife was already laid off a couple of weeks ago, and while there's the possibility of being able to be rehired later, her workplace is a lot more consumer-demand sensitive and there's no telling when their business will bounce back.
i'm still plugging along. work shipped a headset out to me so i have to take internal support calls at home now, which is annoying, better than the alternative of being out of work. the coming days are mostly going to be filled with coaching call center staff on explaining to prospective clients that there is a global pandemic and we're operating at a fraction of our usual capacity and so no, we are not completing application reviews an hour after they're dropped in the mailbox. the unfolding catastrophe has done nothing to dampen the absurd demands and insufferable attitudes of Small Business Owners™ who choose to open new memberships in the midst of this clusterfuck.
