I was having daily nightmares about getting laid off and I had almost given up on finding a job. Was toying with opening up a convenience store or something.

It's worked out nicely in the end because my wife and I both got jobs in Phoenix Arizona. Income will obviously increase well above what I was making pre-pandemic because we'll both be making money. So it's all worked out well. We'll be moving next month.

I'll be doing the same stuff I've done for the last four years, basically it'll be helping manage the development of a software product, planning and organizing things.

And hell yes I'm going to have beers today. I might be cooking and drinking.

you know i hear this from unemployed people sometimes and they act as if factory/retail/food jobs don't exist and aren't always hiring. it seems like some people would rather go homeless than work those while looking for something better. not saying you didn't consider those however.

What you are describing has to be a small minority of people. I can't imagine most people would rather be homeless than work.

As for me, if you scroll up you can see I was prepared to look at other forms of income generation, like opening up a store or starting a business. I definitely was going to look at fields other than what I was used to working in.

Don't over think this Zim or try too hard to find analogies and parallels. It's enough to just appreciate that I went through a tough time, 5 months unemployed, got rejected a lot, lost a lot of hair on my head from stress, but made it in the end, and leave it at that.

i am definitely guilty of this, i turned down a job i'd been hired at like 9 years ago because i absolutely could not stomach it. it was a DNC-affiliated fundraising company, basically telemarketing. the intersection of all the shit i hate the most in the world, high-pressure sales and VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO dogma.

i got through the 2-week training, and my first proper shift was a half-day after the final training session. i spent about an hour on the phones, and on my last call the script had me justifying some blue dog bullshit about why it's fine to vote for climate denialism. went out for a smoke break, got into my car, left and never showed back up.

That's me as well and I have no regrets about that at all. I'm very, very, very picky with the type of job I'm applying to as I definitely take into consideration the distance from my house, parking rates and work-from-home capability. No chance in hell will I ever apply for a retail/food job or anything that doesn't involve me being in front of the computer for the entire day.

there's such a thing as being overqualified for a job as well - a lot of places won't even bother to interview you if they look at your resume and see, for example that you have 5 years IT experience and you're applying for a fastfood gig (you're unlikely to stay long and probably won't be easy to boss around).

i've done 110 in vegas and it's really not that bad. i know it's cliche but it's a dry heat and that makes all the difference!

I'm disliking this new job a great deal. It's my second day and they are already riding my ass and making me work well past my working hours. My supervisor gave me this dogshit of a job at the tail end of my day while she took off. It's my second day at this fucking company and I'm already working well into the evening. Secondly they seem to be the sort of people that you have to let them know anytime you're going away from your desk for any amount of time.

I'm trying to grasp what it is I've gotten myself into here.

She hasn't complained the way I have on here, so from a tolerableness standpoint, it must be better.

We're already making the move to Arizona next month because both of us got jobs there. So I can't just start looking for Dallas jobs now.
