Re: Georgia senate elections commentary
not to rain on anyone's parade here but the republicans control the senate regardless of the outcome because the republicans hold multiple democratic seats
loeffler being gone would be a net good for humanity obviously, but the legislative outlook doesn't change based on anything happening tonight

amazing what happens when the democrats actually campaign on helping people in direct and meaningful ways
almost like there could be some broadly-applicable lesson for them here

This is good, this means I'll get $2000, split two ways if the Dems pass another big stimulus. Also, I'm expecting a good vaccine program, so great, can't wait for this fuckin pandemic to be over so I can finally hit the gym. Tired of living like a hermit.

Re: Georgia senate elections commentary
the research done on how americans coped with COVID is gonna be fascinating
like the change in number of suicides, divorces, gaming, stuff like that that is easy to quantify
and then the final death toll, and the final preventable or deaths-more-than-normal toll
some awesome numbers to look forward to when you are in the gym and thinking back

Re: Georgia senate elections commentary
now the trick is holding that power. I really hope that every republican that threw their hat in with bag of diarrhea inside another, bigger bag of diarrhea and especially those that fanned the flames of what happened yesterday have that shit thrown in their faces at every opportunity going forward. people need to not forget this fuckery.

What will remain of the republican party, will they ever have a president again? In the last four years they haven't shown themselves to be trustworthy.

Re: Georgia senate elections commentary
in a functioning political system this would probably signal a total realignment and a generation of defeat for the republicans. however we do not have a functioning political system and this is a minor stumbling block for them

Re: Georgia senate elections commentary
While comments like "will the Rep.s ever have a President again" are overblowing the significance of recent events, it's not a minor stumbling block either. It's going to lead to an internal factional battle between the T.rump faction and the more to the center Republicans. The centrist Republicans are going to accuse the T.rump faction of leading the Rep.s down the path of electoral defeat. You will therefore have some years of confusion and incoherence in their opposition to Dems. So it's going to take them a while to pick themselves back up.
I doubt they're going to mount a successful opposition in 2024, but they very likely will in 2028. This is because over time as an economy recovers, the greed of the middle class and upper class voters for short-term benefits like tax cuts inevitably kicks in, they feel they're not getting rich fast enough, so when things start getting better, they end up electing Republicans, who do give the tax cuts but also create massive wealth inequality that leads to repeated economic crashes. The US population tends to bring in Democrats to clean up a mess, like in the Great Recession and the present pandemic, but as soon as the going gets good every body gets greedy for Republican tax cuts.
