Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
so i finally beat NG @ ~175 hours last week. stayed in NG for a while to help a buddy out with late game bosses and do cleanup etc., finally started NG+ last night since i just need 2 more endings for the platinum trophy. did a really half-assed impromptu speedrun thru NG+ and it took me about 2.5 hours to get to the final boss gauntlet. could've shaved an hour off that easy with better planning and not fighting radhan for god knows what reason
it was extremely smooth sailing until the end of farum azula, there's a huge spike in boss damage beginning with maliketh. that one took me like 4 tries and godfrey took me... quite a few more. those two were close to an hour of the total playtime. summons are very much only tuned for NG - i had to hold up tiche for phase 2 of godfrey because she was getting wrecked if i brought her out straight away

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
IMO the prior games were all tuned around solo play - summons, whether co-op or NPC, pretty much always trivialized the fights. if you're reasonably experienced there wasn't much reason to ever use them
elden ring is definitely tuned with the expectation that you'll use the spirit ash summons, which are a core gameplay element. bosses tend to be much more aggressive, lots more guaranteed guard break combos etc. that encourage the use of summons. not to say they're required, if you're sufficiently talented you can clear every fight in the game solo, but there's a lot less margin for error in solo play in ER, i feel

got the platinum trophy, time to put down gaming for a long while

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
the dark souls endings felt appropriate but the elden ring endings feel too short. for such a big game i expected a slightly more elaborate endings
i haven't touched the game since i finished but it's definitely worth the time and money.

dark souls 1 specifically is rough to 100%. i managed to 100% ds2 but that took awhile with all the farming and multiplayer achievements

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
a fellating lover bought me dark souls 2 and i played it for about an hour and didn't touch it again for a year. eventually revisited it and got absolutely hooked after i figured out how to actually play.
i know you like fps games, have you ever been into any adventure or third person games?

the way i saw it was this was the only level 1 build, why start at a higher level with predetermined stats when you can build your own?

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
wow you have much more stats than me
i am now dual wielding, it rocks. in the swing of things, up to level 10, killed a couple of "enemy felled"'s. still can't kill a few of the big guys near the start. have to begin venturing further afield for baddies with more souls.
the horse is stupid, why did they do the horse thing

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
for early game i generally like the guard counter up talisman plus the one that recovers HP with critical hits. makes catacombs in particular a breeze since you mostly just fight imps and a guard counter gets you a guaranteed stagger

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
guard counter dealie i think is in stormveil, crit one is a catacomb, i think it's the one east of the warmaster's shack? there's a bridge that leads over to summonwater village, the catacomb is in a big clearing to the north just before you get to that bridge. should be along the western cliff wall

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
greatswords have been buffed since i played but i was kind of upset that a basic strength + greatsword/straightsword build didn't carry me through the game the way it did in other souls games. it really feels like the game wants you to use anything but a basic sword. i also didn't bother with the ashes of war thing but i'm sure it would have made the game easier

Re: Anybody excited about Elden Ring?
mmm i think the game is very much tuned in a way that it wants you to use the spirit summons. i used the spirit summons a lot because a lot of fights feel straight up imbalanced for just yourself vs whatever.
