I will say that while it does suck having to pay more, one can only hope that this will directly change people's behavior when it comes to driving and consumption. maybe even spur new innovation since there will be an interest in funding it.

Or just open up domestic drilling abd other pipelines in europe for cleaner oil and gas not from the middle east or russua. This while we continue to innovate and explore other options instead of pretending there is something that currently doesn’t exist.
I hope the Russian invasion is a wake up call to all of our leaders to become less dependent on other countries

It's bad out here as well although Shell seems to have better prices than most of the other gas station brands here.

I decided a while ago that my next car will be an electric or the very least a hybrid. I just hope car prices (which skyrocketed during the pandemic for multiple reasons) begin to normalize down the road.
say what you will about Tesla - but the technology has been proven. it will only get better as time goes on.

Pretty much every major brand has an all electric vehicle at this point. Just a matter of range/features for what you are willing to put out.Mesarthim wrote: ↑14 Mar 2022, 18:43I decided a while ago that my next car will be an electric or the very least a hybrid. teslas are toy cars built in tents and you should not buy one. the whole company is a massive accounting fraud scheme which is run to prop up its absurd stock price, which is utterly divorced from reality.
especially true that you should not buy one if you live somewhere that gets cold, because the people designing the car did not understand that the whole world does not share a climate with the bay area

I drove electric forklifts with 3000 lb batteries for over a decade in an unheated warehouse in the upper midwest. The drastic decline in battery life that occurs when it gets below freezing - and near uselessness below zero - was the first thing that came to mind when I began seeing all electric vehicles around these parts. Then you factor in heating the vehicle and it definitely gets worse.jawn galliano wrote: ↑14 Mar 2022, 20:35teslas are toy cars built in tents and you should not buy one. the whole company is a massive accounting fraud scheme which is run to prop up its absurd stock price, which is utterly divorced from reality.

Maybe it makes sense for making a short inner-city commute from a fancy high rise to a high powered advertising agency, but at that point it's basically just a government subsidized status symbol for the wealthy.

The eqs is probably in the same boat. They start at like $120k for a base model if I remember correctly. I've seen multiple in our lot for service but yet to see one on the road.jawn galliano wrote: ↑14 Mar 2022, 20:35teslas are toy cars built in tents and you should not buy one.

anyways, not saying I would buy one - just that they at the very least proved the technology. I'd be fine buying from any other electric car manufacture as well.

Re: Gas prices
I've seen a ton of them on the road this past winter - though I don't know if their performance drops due to the cold. but you're right, mainly best for just work commutes until a there is a significant improvement in battery distance and national charging infrastructure.Paste Human wrote: ↑15 Mar 2022, 05:11I drove electric forklifts with 3000 lb batteries for over a decade in an unheated warehouse in the upper midwest. There was an aerospace engineer who was working on a battery that supposedly ran 1500 miles.
Not sure if he has completed it or still trying.

Replacing those batteries is also not cheap, and frequent "quick" charges will also shorten their lifespan. I'm sure the technology will keep advancing, but for now bitter cold weather can do a number on expensive electronics exposed to the elements.
