I have a coworker that did this - quit their job in Florida - got in their car with all the possessions they wanted to take with them and then traveled the country for 3 months and just stayed in airbnbs the whole time. Eventually they arrived here in Minnesota and decided to stay.

Not paying rent and all would be nice but damn gas and eating out for most of your meals seems like it would add up pretty quick. Not to mention you’d have to make sure to have some saving for the inevitable “my car is in need of a mechanic and it’s going to cost a shit load” moments.

My family and i have done a cross country road trip once or twice a year since I was a kid:

Truck stops aren’t as bad as you would think especially flying j’s (pilot). I have had to use their showers to clean my brother after bathroom mishaps more than once.m

just avoid the hot dogs, taquitos, and all the food rolling on the heaters if you don’t want food poisoning. Their packaged salads, fruit, and crackers are actually decent for car food. Most have either a chicken olace, wendy’s, arby’s or subway as well not ideal but works for an all in one stop. We have also parked and napped in the car. The restaurants are not 24/7 but the stops themselves are.
