Are men who like things inserted in their ass gay? I voted "no" because although it's a bit weird, a man is not gay for this unless he is having things/private parts shoved into his ass by another man.

I always understood gayness to be the attraction to the same sex. So while having stuff rammed up the shunt isn't directly gay, wanting a man's wang up there would be.

Well homosexuality is defined as an attraction to the same sex, so unless that's also part of the equation, then no. And I'm sure there are plenty of gay guys out there who don't like any sort of anal stimulation.
