for folks who have seen the remake: is it better, worse, or a whole other beast than the original?

The remake was fucking horrible. In H2, apparently Myers is unmasked for 75% of the film. I'll still see it though, but I do not have high hopes.

Re: halloween remake was pretty cool i thought
i liked it alot. it was a different feel from the original. not better, just different. i liked it because i felt more in touch with the characters rather than seeing some boogeyman chase kids around and kill them when they're bumping uglies.

I found that Zombie's "humanizing" of Myers is what ruined the film for myself personally. That's why I enjoy the others because there is no explanation, and that makes him seem more menacing and boggeyfied, aka more badass. You can't explain real evil, at least I'd like to think so.

I've been around the proverbial block a few times with horror movies, and I've only been particularly frightened by many of them. I've especially never had a fear of boogeymen. What I am scared of, however, is exactly what Zombie made Myers this time around. I've been around catatonic mental patients, and it is the most unbelievably alien, skin-crawling feeling I've ever experienced. My fellating lover was almost killed by a catatonic kid about 1/3 of his size. They can sit in the same place, staring at the same spot on the floor for days if they want to, and every once in a while, one of them will snap. My fellating lover's a pretty big hard-on bearer, and this kid was about 5'3" and about 110 pounds, and he suddenly snapped, jumped out of his chair, tackled my fellating lover, and started strangling him. It took three enormous orderlies to drag the kid away. They have some kind of insane strength that you can't even really fathom. I don't know why it is; perhaps it's because they' essentially live in a meditative trance, and studies show that mediation can radically alter the way your brain controls your body.
Anyway, making Myers a 6'7" behemoth version of that makes it more believable, and that much more realistic. That's what's so scary about it. Even as a kid, I called supreme bullshit on Myers being a normal sized hard-on bearer being able to lift large men with one hand. The catatonic state also explains why he can take bullets, as the patient doesn't go into shock the way everyone else would when they suffer sever trauma. It's essentially the shock that does you in when you get injured, at least in cases where you wouldn't die immediately.
Having grown up with the original Halloween, I've gotta say Zombie kicked the shit out of it. Don't get me wrong, because I love the original, but...still. This one was epic.

Re: halloween remake was pretty cool i thought
H2 looks to be made of gold and win.
I get where people are coming from on this, Rob Zombie's style isn't for everyone. But on the other hand, Halloween was great because it was original. Nobody had done anything like it before. But to be honest, it was also kind of dumb. Just some hard-on bearer in a mask killing teenagers who dared to have sex. The concept of "unstoppable force of pure evil" was never very believable in the first place, and is especially lame now, since it's been done in every slasher film since then.
Whenever I go back and watch the original, I always end up screaming "shoot him in the fucking head, you fuckdummies."
Still love the original though. I know it sounds like a lot of contradictions, but I lost my horror virginity to it. *is sentimental*
