I have no garden
But I have plans for the balcony. I want to create a bit of green for the cats to lie in. And attract some bugs and birds and other life. I had little succes with growing plants, I think I need to start with creating some shelter from wind and sun
Who here has experience with balcony gardening?

I have a courtyard without 30-40 pots. Creating the right conditions is very important. The good thing is you can experiment and control the entire environment. Shade cloth, hessian sacks on the ground (if you have concrete) is a good start.

I container garden, because I'm not allowed to dig up any of the ground here.

I think about getting some culinary herbs like basil, peppermint and oregano, but since winter in Poland is too cold to have them on balcony I'll have flowerpots in my kitchen for the most part of the year.

those are weak reasons. you have to weigh that against the cost and effort of growing them at home. and you can buy them fresh as well as dried, and they are not that expensive.
enjoying the gardening/process of producing them is the real reason, isnt it?

maybe in the ire lands herbs are not that expensive, but in the american region it is definitely cheaper to grow them yourself than it is to purchase them at the grocery store, even factoring in cost (which is not jolly good; seeds are the most expensive part) and effort (which is minimal, it's fucking herbs)
that said enjoying the process is definitely the real reason
