observed once with a classmate's recreational optical telescope once, don't remember the size. But I saw ur anus. Tracked Jupiter and Saturn for a bit and saw a binary.

Spent a few tens of hours observing with this when I worked with observational stuff a few years ago:

nowhere near as fun as the former tho

The problem with most suburban areas is finding a dark viewing place. I sometimes hope for a brief blackout, but those are usually accompanied by stormy weather.

Mine is a 10" Orion Dobsonian:

If I had it to do over again, I'd get this Celstron 11" Cassegrain:

Except that it costs about 10X what I paid for mine!

if I were to ever invest any of my own time/money into this, I'd go and study some glass manufacturing and try to build a Galileo telescope. Seen a few DIY's turn out really well. Nowhere near as good as a $5k reflector but I could never justify spending that much.

8" Orion Europa reflector, was relatively cheap in the £500 range. Had it for well over a decade now but it's been resigned to the attic last few years. Seen dozens of galaxies, nebulas and clusters and all the planets up to Neptune with it. I love astronomy :xx:

That would be a lot of fun.

I've never used a telescope mount, but I have played around with the nightsky on my camera.
