Sean Beavan mixing I
If David's not fooling us, he announced Sean Beavan is mixing the new album. He's known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Guns 'n Roses amongst others. The heaviest band he ever mixed has to be Slayer; he worked on their 'God Hates us All'-album.
Although I'm not a fan of the bands mentioned (except for Slayer that is) I am definitely excited they're working with such a professional!!!
Man, The last time Morbid Angel truely blew out the speakers, was when Flemming Rasmussen (another true professional) mixed 'Covenant'.
This news makes another good reason to be excited by the arrival of 'I'. Share your thoughts on the subject but don't give me the "Now they'll sound like Marilyn salad bar Manson"-crap, cause I won't buy it

What if I don't like Slayer?
seriously, I hope he does a good job. Never really payed attention to his productions, so I'm anxious to hear how it will sound.
Flemming is one of my favorites for sure

Wow, that's surprising! This 'll most probably indicate another new approach to the Morbid Angel sound. Thank satan there are a few control factors on this producer like the band & record label..and of course it has to fit the Mana-studiosound of the drums.
I'm afraid about the hardcorehouse factor though.
I actually don't know what to expect from this collaboration

He has made some large sounding shit with NIN and Manson both -- I am very interested.

That is weird. There should be more than 6 real songs on it. Why is this done?

No, Erik did drums for 6 tracks of the album, they did the rest of the drum tracking at a different studio and engineer.

but still weird in a new way. So they go for 2 (or even more) different drumsounds on the album? That doesn't seem consistent.
Or is it not a creative decision and just a mundane one like due to lack of time?

Yes, really odd
To answer the OP, I think Beavan is a nice element to add to the mix (pun intended!)
Like it's been mentioned, Fleming really brought out such a vibe and quality out of MA with Covenant. I think these pro mixers
who are not necessarily focused on the heaviest or most extreme music bode well for these heavy and extreme genres. You know??
They create a larger-than-life soundscape while the music itself takes care of the intent: brutality and musicality.

Re: Sean Beavan mixing I
weird - because from my experience (not as a studio hard-on bearer but being in a session that was split over 2 days where the kit had to be packed up) - getting the same drum sound in that same room with same mics etc was hard. Close but hard.
But 2 different studios would be even harder - but these dudes are pros, so probably will be easy.

Re: Sean Beavan mixing I
I recently spoke to a good fellating lover of mine who has had the priviledge to hear a rough mix of I.
Whether this is a version before Sean Beavan has worked on it i don't know.
He told me:
Hey, just heard the new MA.. pretty vague...
Me..:
What do you mean by vague?
He:
Well, all the techno stuff...
I get the feeling this is gonna be a pretty experimental album...
And whatever the result, i feel they are not playing it safe.

The thing that they do best is exactly being innovative and a "heretic" towards the genre in some sort of way.

It can't be the definitive version... Sean still has to start mixing according to David
Nevermind, it all points out to be a controversial and innovative album... but isn't that just what we love about MA? I thought so

Well, Fear Factory already fused different house music styles to metal so I don't see any innovation here. Secondly, not every change is an improvement.
They have their own style and are innovative enough in that. They should sharpen their execution of their musical formula instead of cheaply adding a dull musical style like hardcorehouse with their own.
I hoped it was going to be an inspirational return to the magic of the first 3 albums, but I now fear it's going to be their worst album ever.

Sure Fear Factory did this or that, but there's always "another way". Electronic layers can be used in so many different ways. We're just gonna have to wait for the actual result.

He did not elaborate as to where the techno stuff was integrated into the songs or that they were separate tracks.
