One thing isn't correct on that site:
They didn't record the entire album at Mana Recording Studios, only 6 tracks of drums. The rest was recorded at Punchy's studio.

Does that necessarily mean that only 6 tracks have drums? Let's hope they also recorded a few more at Punchy's. Otherwise, just 6 new songs with the full band after all these years =

I am the Dragon. And you call me insane. You are privy to a great becoming, but you recognize nothing. To me, you are a slug in the sun. You are an ant in the afterbirth. It is your nature to do one thing correctly: Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe.

They may have recorded drums with Punchy as well, the only thing he told me was "I was only tracking audio, there was no MIDI involved."

Do you mean I said that they didn't do any drum tracking besides those 6 tracks with Erik? I never said that... because I don't know exactly what they tracked with Punchy.

Re: MORBID ANGEL - New Album Release Date Confirmed
Erik Rutan, Sean Beavan and Punchy also produce I? This is new for me.
This gets vague; I thought Erik did drums and Sean the rest, but now Punchy also did songs?
So Sean does the midi tracks?

Re: MORBID ANGEL - New Album Release Date Confirmed
Look, there's a difference between engineering (recording) and producing, and also mixing. These are all rolls that different people can play in a recording process.
For example: Trey is producing (simply put; giving live feedback to the drummer) while Erik or Punchy is engineering (recording) drum tracks.
In a different situation David could be producing the guitar tracks while Punchy is recording them, but while Trey plays the guitar parts.
Erik recorded 6 tracks of drums, perhaps Punchy also tracked a few drum tracks and probably guitars, bass and vocals because Erik only recorded those 6 tracks worth of drums.
There's apparently electronics in there, so that means some kind of MIDI/VST addition. Trey could've done this himself or Sean or whoever. All Punchy told me was that while recording at his studio, they didn't use any kind of MIDI instrument. Sean is only mixing as far as we know (which basically has nothing to do with recording other instrument parts - not to cancel out the option of adding musical stuff because even in the mixing stage it can happen).
FYI: An engineer can take the roll of a producer at the same time as well (and even with right kind of knowledge and experience, that of a mixer and/or mastering engineer), which happens a lot more these days instead of the "usual" jobs people had in the '30s - '70s. Where recording studios often had their own engineers, only providing the artist with the technical support (miking techniques, operating the tape deck or console, etc.). When that process was finished, the multi-track recordings went to a mixing studio where it would be mixed down to 4 or 8 stereo tracks of tape (this was also done at the recording studio because people simply had but a certain amount of audio tracks (depending on what kind of tape recorder)). Then to a mastering studio. Nowadays, with DAW's (Digital Audio Workstation) this is all much easier. Plus the options of simply mixing the recordings in the same studio, even mastering in the same studio is possible with the right equipment.

None of these things have "officially" been posted on either their official website, Facebook or Myspace. Only the fact that Sean is mixing the record and that they have been recording at Mana.
The only "truth" we have, is what has been said by the people involved in making this record.

I think Mark Prator will probably have programmed all midi (I remember he was involved on Domination too). There's this picture of David with Mark, probably shot in the Red Room Recorders Studio. Seems assumable, as Genitorturers have worked there already. Maybe there was some recording done there by Morbid Angel too.
Here's that pic

"After the lengthy conversations David and I have had, he sung himself right out, and is very proud of how this album came together.
And yes, the album will be out pretty quick.... I hope...
After some random wild tangent about Sepultura, and other crap like boiled peanuts get got off onto, we started talking about Pete.
Right now, Pete can't sit for longer than 30min at a time, and only plays the drums at like 50%......
Pete told the band, that he may, or may not be coming back...
Tim isn't playing with Divine Heresy right now, since Dino is off touring with Fear Factory, and Tim basically told Divine Heresy to not expect anything out of him for the next two years or so.....
Not sure what's gonna happen there now.

Re: MORBID ANGEL - New Album Release Date Confirmed
Not exactly on topic and possibly a bit of a spoiler....
Back in OCTOBER I happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time while mixing some recordings of my own at one of the above mentioned studio guys places and heard about a minute of one of the "metal" songs, minus any vocals/bass, just guitar and drums in a rough mix and from that bit of blasting sections and whatnot, confidence can/should be quite high for the new stuff as it saddles pretty close to what we'd probably want to hear while not pandering to common sounds we hear many "new" bands gravitating to in these times...distinctly the MA sort of warped 8 track cassette riffing/etc...
Pending strong vocal performances (fingers crossed) this should be a quite strong release...
All of course in my most humble of opinions....
