also if i remember correctly the song after spectrelight is bedazzled fingernails, i am pleased that it's held up

overall i feel about the hunter pretty much the same way i did after once more round the sun came out. it is just a collection of unrelated songs they had sitting around, and that is perfectly fine. it is only jarring because the first four mastodon albums were meant to be thematic and cohesive

but it also means the hunter lacks a certain urgency or oomph or whatever the fuck you want to call it. mastodon goofing around, mastodon donging the black album shuffle, and so on. the high points aren't as high and the boring points are more frequent

once more round the sun is also mostly a collection of songs, but they're more closely related and the songs are better. no three songs on the hunter come close to the omrts opening trio let alone the rest of the gems on there

Aunt Lisa and asleep the deep are also bad but not nearly as bad as the previous two.
