they have been for a while now, i really can't tell what that has to do with 'elitism' though. is noticing that something has become more popular an elitist behavior?

who cares! Their music is awesome!
It really is lame how some people, (obviously posers and not really into the actual music) will 'not like a band' if they become 'popular' or 'trendy'.

The underground decided they're too trendy? Shit, I'd better delete them from my last.fm and set Zarach-Baal-Tharagh on repeat while I'm away at work

Only hipsters use last.fm.The underground decided they're too trendy? Shit, I'd better delete them from my last.fm and set Zarach-Baal-Tharagh on repeat while I'm away at work
I won't really care unless I see hot topic/mallcore kids sporting it. Fuck I hate mainstream wanklets.
Never heard of them. Look it up on MA, appears to be lame as shit. I will check them out though. The underground decided they're too trendy? Shit, I'd better delete them from my last.fm and set Zarach-Baal-Tharagh on repeat while I'm away at work
Edit: Holy fuck thats dumb as shit. It's not even music. Is this hard-on bearer serious, or is this a big fucking joke? This hard-on bearer has to be an epic troll.

Lulz.
Edit again: lulzy MA review:
I'll admit it - I was weak. A passing glance at a list of black metal bands, and I see the admittedly enticing name Zarach 'Baal' Tharagh. A visit to his MA profile later, and I'm immediately stunned by the number of releases he has. Next thing I know, I've succumbed to his biggest ploy, and I'm searching for any of his releases. I know, I should've known from the start that anyone releasing so many recordings in so little time must not have spent much time writing the actual songs, but curiousity got the best of me. Of course, he claims that all his material was written from as early as '83, and is just now recording it, but that hardly changes the fact that he's produced some of the worst recorded out put I've ever heard.
I've kept downloading, and occasionally buying the stray release by him (dirt cheap, as he knows not many will pay for this kind of thing), hoping that somewhere, something has got be an improvement. As a result, I now have a large hoard of his apparent legacy, just rotting away, most of them given not more than a single listen (if even that). Well, I figure I might as well say a thing or two about them before condemning them to the digital trash, since aside from collecting his entire catalogue (an impossible task to say the very least), they no longer have any purpose now that my curiousity is assuaged and my ear drums ruptured.
I will admit right now that out of the ONE HUNDRED releases he has so far, Monsieur Mertz has put out some material that is less than horrible. Some might even be tolerable (though I'm not ready to say any approaches good status). This however, is not. In fact, it's some of the absolutely fucking terrible garbage I've ever heard. Aside from the untitled debut (which I still can't find - anyone?), this is his first recorded material, and it shows. Horribly. All ZBT trademarks are here, including loer-than-lo production, unchanging drummachine, tuneless "riffs", and shrieks that would make Maniac cringe. All songs are numbered chapters, most likely because he's too lazy for song titles, but also because this is essentially one song, and the "chapters" are nothing but marking places where they're broken up with a second of silence. EVERYTHING sounds the same here. Everything. The exact fucking same formula is used in every song, and I honestly can't discern one part from the next.
That formula consists of the typical drummachine, guitar, vox approach. Not really bad in theory, but let's take a closer look at the specifics. The drummachine is the same half second loop repeated over and over and over and over. Hyper fast doublebass with a snare every fourth, and a crash every fourth snare. And when I say fast, I mean it sounds like a dial tone. Riffs are nothing more than noise. Tuneless, sloppy noise. I mean I'm a fan of rawness, but when you can't even hear the riffs, it's a bit too far for fuck's sake. Vocals are insane shrieking that breach the threshold of pain and then some, and while it might sound good as an occasional off-hand scream, when the entire song has the sounds of a tortured goose mixed with white noise as "singing", it wears just a tiny bit thin.
Add this formula to every song, you've got 16 minutes of torture where I would honestly rather listen to radio pop-punk than this. Well, I probably wouldn't go THAT far, but it's no exaggeration to say this is the absolute worst thing in metal I've ever heard. 2 points because the opening scream in the first song makes me shudder each time.

Re: so Deathspell Omega is trendy/hip now.
it's kinda funny how elitists hate DsO but gobble up Funeral Mist - when Devilry and Salvation were both definite pre-cursors to the "orthodox" BM sound. in fact, one could say Funeral Mist even created the orthodox BM sound. to my knowledge, nobody was doing what FM were doing back in 1998 (with Devilry), nor in 2001 (when Salvation was recorded.) DsO have stated that SMRC took "over two years" to conceive, which would put the writing around mid-2001. Arioch was already recording "Salvation" in 2001, which means the writing was earlier. but yet FM get loved and DsO get hated. surprise surprise.
fuck elitists, they're all a bunch of retards.

to be fair, im pretty sure the elitists (whoever the fuck this mysterious group of people are) dislike funeral mist too, but ok. i enjoyed salvation but SMRC is miles ahead.
anyway, can we stop using 'elitist' as an insult or pejorative term? who is it supposed to hurt? calling someone who thinks they are elite an elitist is like throwing money at rich people. could we incorporate the term 'delusional' when referring to this group of people, or something like that?

Some people think that releasing CD instead of very limited demo or vinyl EP makes band trendy
I liked DsO and Funeral Mist since 2004 and I remember people calling them trendy back then.

well I'm not so sure about the internet world on a whole, but I know that the specific elitists I had in mind (those anus-ite types, the ones who seem to post on forums like metal-archives, etc) certainly dislike dso's work smrc-present but love devilry and salvation.
personally I think salvation is on par to smrc but can't hold a candle to fas (then again, neither can smrc in that respect.)
oh well, delusional morons are delusional. (happy? I didn't use "elitist.")

Observing the self-proclaimed elite minds and practisers of orthodox metaphysical satanism with astrotheological and gnosticistic leanings cry elitism over the dismissal of their favourite little rock icons is somewhat humourous.

We're all elitists here. At least to the average nickleback loving moron. We all hate metalcore here too, automatically making us elitists in average joes eyes. Maybe we despise the hardcore metal elitists, that is another thing.

are Into the Moat metalcore?
I'm not a fan, but are they? Even with Rutan producing the album...
One thing I find lame, is the elitism on MetalAcrhives.com.
Their whole thing of 'what is metal' is lame. Like bands that are clearly metal, but get called *-core are left off.
Like Into The Moat aren't on there, because they're classified a -core band.
But they're really grind/tech-death with some metalcore-isms... that's my take. And Rutan produced their album - try telling him they're not metal!!?
Also nu-metal. Sure it's lame, but it is 'metal'.
And some early hardcore/crust bands - they bordered on grindcore....
But i suppose metal is such a broad genre & area.... that's why there has to be some limit... i guess....
