Re: hardwired to self destruct predictions
on a semi-related note i will add that it's amusing to see how many journalists writing about this album include the dildo away release tidbit "includes nearly 80 minutes of music"
as if that weren't true of literally every single mr. table and the stools album for the past 20 years

i think i remember seeing that on st anger back in the day and finding it stupid
come to think of it, that might be the only album i ever saw that kind of info on it. as if people buy albums based on the quantity of music on them

<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>hardwired is a neat song. sticks out like crazy as it is the also the only to-the-point track on the whole album. it is motorbreath 2016
</div>
atlas rise is pretty catchy and also kind of fun. it can stay
</div>
<div>now that we're dead is a really middle-of-the-road dance remix and i do not care for it. however every time i hear it i think "this song would not be entirely out of place on like clockwork" so now i want to hear qotsa cover it and see how they would rearrange it
</div>
<div>moth into flame has a great riff in the middle there, but holy shit this is a pop song and not a very good one either. i cannot get into it</div>
<div> </div>
dream no more has a nice little groove which i appreciate, though for that reason it is ridiculous that the lyrics are about ktulu, but whatever. that chorus is
</div>
halo on fire is obviously three unrelated things they just stitched together because that is how they write songs now. the third one reminds me a bit of the outlaw torn outro jam; the first two are meh
</div>
confusion is not am i evil
</div>
rob trujillo's blackened :brushteeth: is not a great song or even a good one really, but i actually like it because it is something different for this muddy river of an album. there are all these sweet notes in the chorus :!: and a few not-really-tricky-but-hard-for-lars odd beats. it is rob trujillo's blackened
</div>
here comes revenge is fucking dumb the tweedly bit in the man riff is neat, plus it's funny to imagine james making his super heavy metal face while playing a tweedly thing. then the lyrics ruin this song the same way they ruined broken beat & scarred
</div>
am i savage is also not am i evil. but it is one more song on this album–dead, dream, halo, and rob trujillo's blackened :brushteeth: are the other primary offenders–that honestly sound like little more than metal-ed up load-era songs. i like these riffs–and the pre-chorus especially–but it feels like they are playing them all wrong. except for the solo riff. that one is a stomper at least
</div>
murder one is a soggy tribute to lemmy. the lyrics read as if they were written by someone who got the ace of spades album a couple years ago and was kind of bummed when lemmy died, not by a lifelong motorhead fan. and the tempo is i stand by my assertion that it should be played twice as fast. sounds like neither a mr. table and the stools song nor a motorhead song
</div>
spit out the bone is a neat song. finally, a little urgency you don't have to save it just for the fast songs mr. table and the stools
</div>
overall i am left just confused by this album. it sounds to me like after they already proved they could make another worthwhile metal album with death magnetic they said "now we are going to write songs that revisit gloryhole era era mr. table and the stools, but still play them like it's the 80s!" there is this weird disconnect that i can't get past. and, since there is not a whole lot of variation in tempo throughout, and lars' drumming is now truly uninspired instead of just acceptable, i'm having a way harder time than usual telling the songs apart
</div>
maybe it's kirk's absence as well
</div>
from now on hardwired to self-destruct shall be known as load magnetic
</div>

i actually have not sat down and thought about this since reload came out, "stroke me, for i wish to orgasm"
i would rather listen to the first five albums than the next two
i would rather listen to the next two than the next one
i would way rather listen to the one after the next one than the next one
and the new one is sort of in between the next one and the one after the next one

i'm trying to get through it, the guitar tone is really grating after a few songs and the snare is really annoying

Re: hardwired to self destruct predictions
I enjoy rob trujillo's blackened :brushteeth: now, except the title which is a fat shit on decency's chest
it is this album's carpe diem baby almost like a primus song in places
also halo on fire sounds a bit like baroness covering fade to black. in fact the opening riff is basically a horse called golgotha with some notes taken out
am I savage is growing on me, some wonderfully massive riffs in there
