Re: Are bands even recording live albums anymore
carpenter brut came out with a live album recently and it's one of the best releases of the year ulver's album from last year was cut together from a series of live recordings too, though it wasn't really presented as a live album in the traditional sense. converge also released a live album this year!
i think live albums are becoming more of a rarity though, generally speaking. it's probably tough for smaller bands to sell them nowadays. with the advent of cheap mobile recording hardware plus free mass distribution via youtube, it's probably done a lot of damage to that segment from a commercial standpoint

If they do it's just the audio from a DVD release.

Re: Are bands even recording live albums anymore
mastodon did one from the hunter tour just a few years ago
meshuggah did one each after the obzen and koloss tours
metallica has done, like, a bunch of them in recent years. not the livemetallica stuff, i mean the three or four proper live albums from the death magnetic tour. i mean who cares about metallica live anymore, but also they have done some so they count
i dont think clutch has done one since live at the googolplex, if not they should since they are jammin good fun live
there are other examples but i cannot recall them at this particular moment in time; they will have to wait for another, superior, moment

Re: Are bands even recording live albums anymore
I believe so
Some of those are kind of wonky releases though. Heard it all before and strange cousins at the prince were somehow recorded and released the same night . Live in flint was/is only sold online or at shows to my knowledge. full fathom five was the only proper release of the bunch.

i think most don't give a shit
priest did one a year ago, motorhead did one immediately post lemmy-death.
Now not exactly live, Blood Incantation's debut album was recorded with band playing live in the studio, afaik.
