I lost interest in them after in torment in hell. Still jam the first 5 albums pretty regularly.

Bought scars the day it came out and was disappointed with it. Everything since insineratehymn just doesn't do it for me. Even the amon album the hoffman brothers did was missing something.

Re: why is deicide so underrated?
Underrated? Don’t know about your part of the world but around these parts, they’re one of the most talked about in the local death metal circles even after all these years but no one really talks about anythIng beyond their first 3 albums.
They’re one of the first bands a death metal fan would listen to back in the day (myself included). And if you could only see the ridiculous amount of underground death metal acts here covering lunatic of gods creation or sacrificial suicide in the clubs. I guess it’s because that we’re pretty much a roman catholic-dominated country that a band with inverted crosses and tongue-in-cheek satanic lyrics would really cater to young savages back then.

Yeah that's what I meant. Not talked about on here ever but world wide it's just mainly the first 3-4 records. I just don't see much fan fare for them anymore

I think part of that is because Benton has basically become a punchline.

i'd say they're properly rated, their original shit is adored by everyone and all the forgettable shit they've churned out has been left by the wayside. where it belongs

Re: why is deicide so underrated?
I'm not very tuned into metal in general so I don't have a firm grasp on how appreciated they are, but I have heard that they're one of the few death metal bands that earn a livable wage exclusively off their material, so there's that.
Coincidentally I was just watching some guitar covers of stuff off Legion. For how known this band is it is kind of surprising to me that as far as I can tell no other band sounds a whole lot like their first two albums. Meanwhile Incantation and Suffocation have been copied over and over.
I don't know what the Hoffman brothers were on when they wrote legion but some of that material is so fucking bizarre. It's kind of the same with early Morbid Angel where they're clearly members of an established scene of music, but nobody really sounds quite like them.

Re: why is deicide so underrated?
Well legion is notable is for being recorded in standard E tuning which is why the guitars sound so sharp and everything had to be ‘fast’

They had to slow down when they recorded once upon a cross cause it would have been something like 24 minutes

Re: why is deicide so underrated?
I probably won't be able to find the article but I did at one point read that the two guitars were recorded or maybe tuned differently. I know very little about the odds and ends of music so I probably never quite understood what I was reading. But ever since then I have noticed that they sound slightly different. If memory serves they also pulled a Slayer and gave each Hoffman their own channel. Maybe not though.shadowalk wrote:Well legion is notable is for being recorded in standard E tuning which is why the guitars sound so sharp and everything had to be ‘fast’

Re: why is deicide so underrated?
my remarkable contribution to this thread comes in the form of an admission that i too listen to their early albums regularly
but i also really like stench of redemption; that was kind of a one-off different work

Back in 92 or so I traded my cousin some Metallica cassettes for Legion. It was worth it. Been a fan ever since.
