Re: New hate eternal soon
Their previous album didn't do anything for me the only thing I loved about it were the vocals. Much more raw.
Interested in the new one though... but overall, this band doesn't surprise me anymore.

Re: New hate eternal soon
erik made some comments about this. It's lower tuned than any other HE material (pretty sure it's a 7 string tune). Nice to see them breaking the mold and trying some new tempos and melodies too. Looking forward to this album and seeing them in Nov.
I think every odd-numbered HE album is stronger than the preceding even numbered album .

The production seems no better than on MA's "Kingsdoms." Can't Eric get less muddy guitar tone?

i agree, what's with his albums always having so much low end you can hardly hear what's going onShredlord wrote:The productions seems no better than on MA's "Kingsdoms." Can't Eric get less muddy guitar tone?

Funny, because Erik also mixes Cannibal Corpse and plenty of other albums with great audible guitar tones. And those are even tuned lower (A and B flat).zim wrote:i agree, what's with his albums always having so much low end you can hardly hear what's going onShredlord wrote:The productions seems no better than on MA's "Kingsdoms." Re: New hate eternal soon
kind of unrelated but can i ask you a question, do people double track vocals in death metal? is that a thing? not like combined low and high but like double track low vocals. i know it's common for clean vocals but never thought about it for screaming, etc.iamgoat wrote:Funny, because Erik also mixes Cannibal Corpse and plenty of other albums with great audible guitar tones. Probably, yes. Not sure how they mix that but I guess add a second layer with a little bit of distortion or saturation to make the vocals come at you more or to have a different kind of texture. There are so many possibilities with double tracked vocals. But I don’t think they would do that without manipulating the double with some effect. Or at least have somebody else do the low vocals as the double to create more contrast. You hear that a lot on Hate Eternal records. Be it with Erik and Randy or Erik and JJ.zim wrote:kind of unrelated but can i ask you a question, do people double track vocals in death metal? is that a thing? not like combined low and high but like double track low vocals. i know it's common for clean vocals but never thought about it for screaming, etc.
I hate the vocals on Souls To Deny for example. Those are pseudo stereo (maybe a 10 second delay on the other side or some kind of widener) those are not (As far as I can remember by audio memory) double tracked. Stuff like that can be cool in a chorus or bridge but not through the entire album.
P.S.- I really have no clue about what is common in death metal nowadays as I don’t work in that genre anymore. Last metal record I did was 3 years ago. I did track all the vocals for the last Thanatos album. But I don’t remember recording low vocals twice for the same part. There were always some kind of differences in pitch or performance.

Oh hell no. Love it!!! Just not so much as an engineer or producer. But I still love to record and mix stoner or sludge stuff. Slower things but still heavy.

Re: New hate eternal soon
To be honest, I don't really listen to anything beyond I, Monarch these days. I tried but I eventually got bored of them. It's just those first three whenever I'm in the mood for some HE.
