overall i'm really glad i undertook this little project, forced me to branch out and listen to a lot of stuff i never would've and found a lot of fantastic stuff that's come into my rotation. it was nice to break out of my usual mode of listening to the same 10 albums for months at a time. now that i don't have the constant pressure to always listen to something new, i'm not sure if i'll just revert back to that or if i'll seek out new stuff more readily. i am interested to see what 2020 brings in that regard

One of the albums I discovered some time ago, right after I got in love with Soda Stereo and specifically their "Dynamo" album. It is a collab between Cerati and Daniel Melero (A keyboardist with whom they've worked when Soda was beginning their career)

some notes-

really, really been going wild for that whole constellation of UK bands that emerged from the first wave of industrial bands (coil, c93, cashmore, and a few others i've been listening to in my may selections so far). current 93's neofolk stuff that really picked up starting in the gloryhole era is just incredible, horses and black ships have both been in near daily rotation. interestingly, drew mcdowall whose solo output makes him sound like a contemporary of tim hecker actually came from that same scene (including a stint with coil in the gloryhole era ) which i was very surprised to find out.

i was really excited for kull since it's the successor to bal-sagoth but i didn't find it all that exciting to listen to. the other side of that is every one of their later albums has taken me repeat listens to really enjoy but when they click i wind up loving them nearly as much as the first 4 LPs so who knows, maybe this one's got some legs.

scott walker is also fantastic, even his late 60s stuff that was still squarely in the pop realm is quite good.

should've just kept my entombed experience with LHP because the followups just weren't very interesting at all IMO.

caretaker for those who aren't familiar is a 6.5 hour exploration of the progression of dementia, via looped and distorted found-sound samples sourced from old 78rpm and cylindrical recordings from the 30s-40s. degenerates over the course of the stages into a pure noise recording. it's very interesting but a pretty harrowing listen and requires a serious time commitment. don't know that i would listen again just for practical reasons, but it's definitely worth a gander if any of that sounds interesting.

but then also luca turilli shows up because why not i guess

Speaking of such "questionable" artists, check Arditi and Leidungr.

hell is here was excellent! nothing will top deathrace but i dig it

i dislike the new modest mouse just like i do everything after M&A (actually said "why the fuck are you even playing this?" out loud about halfway thru the first song, but i stuck it out to the end) but if you enjoy their later albums i'm sure you'll find it worthwhile

I love the 2 albums after m&a but strangers didn't do much for me. I'll go the new one a go though :santa:

i had lofty expectations with a name like that but i cannot say they were met

they are from melbz so of course i read a throwaway reference to how they were somehow channelling nick cave. which i knew wasn't true before i heard a single measure. but i still found it very irksome nonetheless
