I thought I was just hearing the guitars.

Actually sounds better without the guitars...

What do you mean? That tone is superior to their guitar tone.

Not saying its good or anything, but...

I'm just saying, they would have potential if the guitarists realize that they are guitarists.

As of now they don't even really need guitarists since their bassist has this shit down.

I see why they're interesting, but they fail to capture my interest for more than a minute or two. The vocalist also gets on my nerves extremely quickly.

yeah it sounds cool for certain type of music, like Slimey Things, but I think when you put a bass through distortion and then through a guitar amp it sounds like shit, all tinny and bad, kind of like that Meshuggah vid.

Meshuggah has their unique and awesome moments and I wouldnt say I dislike them, that bass sound just sucks in that video. :santa:

I actually like the tone of the bass in that.

After another listen, no i don't.

If it had a huge sound then yes.

I never hear anything where the bass is distinct and has a huge presence.

if dick (or gustaf or peter) didnt play the bass, the missing low-end would be extremely noticeable. a bass is not a guitar and a guitar is not a bass. there's still plenty of low-end to be accomplished through the bass (even though he plays in the same octave that the guitars do.)

and yes I'm aware that hagstrom and thorendal play the bass on the records, but if you've ever watched the dvd that came with the nothing re-release, it was extremely noticeable when dick stopped.

don't have to, all of the shit from the re-nothing dvd is on youtube and has been forever. it's extremely noticeable when dick stops playing and the guitars are doing their thing by themselves.

heres just one clip, the rest are scattered around youtube somewhere. dick's bass is distorted, you kinda have to listen for it since youtube compresses the shit out of the audio etc etc.

thats a distorted bass, yes. you can tell because it has a thicker tone than the guitars do.

Oh ok. Now I need to figure out if what I'm hearing in the songs on the albums is a guitar or bass...

I recently bought the Swedish Death Metal CD, and I have discovered bands that actually know how to use a bass. Good shit :xx:.
