I just tuned my les paul custom to drop A.

Name some good songs to jam. I'm just pricking about with Eaten by bloodbath at the minute. Any good Nile tabs out there that people know of?

You could do a lot worse than learning The Essential Salts. The clue's in the name, it's essential. And consistent.

Sebek is a sufficiently gratifying tune to learn. Learned it with Karl's vid.

You could also tab out some Demilich yourself if you feel so inclined. :greenie:

I'm afraid I worked it out by ear and can't find a tab that isn't full of baffling mistakes. It's amazing how people can think that's what they're hearing.

The one of Rivers Of Gore is a pretty good starting point though, he's tabbed it in an odd way, but it'll get you going :santa:

If I remember right, Mastodon tune to D, Drop C and a weird one where they tune to D, then tune the lowest string down to A.

Theres a tab of Eaten out there thats nearly entirely downly-chugged open A. Like, seriously.

Oh this is actually JUST AS BAD:

Riff A:

|---------------------------|----------------------|

|---------------------------|----------------------|

|---------------------------|----------------------|

|-12---11---12----8------|-11----7----8----5----|

|---------------------------|----------------------|

|---000--000--000--000-|---000--000--000--000-|

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

I'd sooner never play guitar again than believe that's the riff @(0:30, octave riff?) in wind of horus.

Yeah, that bit's a mess. I've been playing the octave bit like this. Fit the notes to the song, I can't be arsed tabbing out the picking and rhythm :redneck:

Code: Select all

b---------------------------------------------------------

f#---------------------------------------------------------------

d--14--13--9--14--13--10--15--14--11--12--8-----------

a----------------------------------------------------------------

e--12--11--7--12--11--8--13--12--9--10--6--------------

I see the problem now, that's not the riff you think it is. That's the one that starts at around 0:32. The one I tabbed is at around 2:08 :santa:

And having listened to it again, my version isn't quite right. The notes are correct, but there are some little trills that I don't do. It'd be pretty damn hard to do those and play the octaves.

Oh yeah the 'you will never escape the valley galala' one :grimb:

The riff before that, the arrow from lanata riff is easily one of the most punishing riffs in metal. The simple drum change from 2/4 to blasting is just such a payoff. :xx:

Sorry, I could go on all day about the win of this song. :hard-on bearer:

Wind of Horus >>>> Most other songs

I think we're both right about the harmony bit. The first four bars are harmonised in fifths, then it goes to octaves and then it does a third thing that I'm too tired to decipher at the moment

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but that's a two-guitar riff, there's no way around that.

it's a combination. the high harmony is across the two guitars, and the low note isn't always the same interval away. what i'm saying is that there's at least 4 guitar tracks, and it's impossible to play any two of them at once.

I've never really worked on my speed before, it's seriously lacking but has really jumped quite a few bpm in the past week due to just intensive practicing. Fucking fingers are sore at the minute. :homework:

What's helped me is that I do the right hand of the air guitar any time I'm listening to something that would be relevant. It's not a substitute for actual practice, but it's a pretty consistent :greenie: way to develop muscle memory.

As far as Nile goes, my life guitar goals are still to learn Masturbating the War God and the solo from To Dream of Ur, as these are undoubtedly the best things Nile have done. :xx:

The problem really isn't having the speed or technique, it's a matter of the :homework:

Seriously, it's nearly impossible to figure out what's going on in the Dream of Ur solo. I can get quite a bit of Masturbating the War God by ear, but certain parts are still :homework:

I recorded the outro to one of my tunes. The rest is faster (240bpm) I wanna get it tight before I record it. It sounds cool when its just drops 40bpm to come into this riff.
