anyone own a half-stack?

Post by zim »

i've always wanted one - i'd really like to own one so i actually have the possibility of jamming with a group someday.

the Carvin V3 has always looked interesting to me, it's also insanely cheap for the head/cab combo.

so how loud are they? is it overkill for bedroom jamming?

moving from a garbage disposal back to the dumpster but it’s an improvement nonetheless

A half-stack is way overkill for bedroom use if you're renting in a multi-unit building. Better off getting something small unless you have a dedicated practice space, or live somewhere without neighbors/landlords

its not over kill because it can be used in all situations, whatever you get make sure it sounds good at low volume ie the carvin you mention is a class act. combined possibly with an attenuator to ensure bedroom level intensity

Marshall JCM 800 2203 on a 4x12 cab :ba:

but I mostly use practice amps in the bedroom, save said in the library room dealie down stairs for jamming and such

if I ended up playing live again, I'd just use whatever they have at the club with my pedals, pedals and such can get you really far these days

really killer metal or rock sounds at home can be achieved with low wattage single channel tube amps combined with pedals or some sort of processor

a low wattage tube amp combined with pedals and such, you can get tons and tons of different sounds

I know this rich, spoiled duder that would bring a head and cab to clubs and his first guitar was a high end PRS. Needless to say, he got bored with guitars after about a year or so and now frequents rave clubs that endlessly plays that dubstep nonsense and snorts line after line of coke.
