Wanting to get into electronic music

Post by zim »

I've wanted to do this for a long time and make some more serious electronic music. I've made a couple tracks before but I'd actually like to get a MIDI controller.

So, I assume I'll need a MIDI Controller and a good soundcard? Anyone with experience? Looking for some recommendations here first. Also looking into studio headphones and maybe some monitors.

These monitors are a little expensive but the reviews seem really good.

Okay, I admit, I've never heard of him. But, (until I hear him) aside from this fellow, those greater-thans hold true!

i think a large part of the problem is that for all the people here that listen to the stuff, there might only be one or two that can actually comment on producing it.

What you'll want to have for gear depends on what sorts of sounds you're going for.

I like a sampler, MIDI controller, and drum sequencer combination. There's a crap load of other pieces of win you can incorporate.

also as general advice, a midi controller isn't necessarily needed, it just gives you a physical device to execute functions in the software. if you're performing or trained on piano it could make things more convenient, but i don't think such a device would be strictly required. as far as composing/producing tracks go, all you really "need" per se will be the appropriate software and plugins and such.

of course, if you're looking to incorporate live instruments or standalone synthesizers or what-have-you, then yeah, you'll want a solid sound card and whatever associated gear you need to get an acceptable signal into your computer.

also keep in mind this general advice is coming from someone who knows absolutely nothing about producing electronic music

i want to get some actual hardware. i've made some electronic music using just the DAW but i'd like to twist some knobs and hit some keys in real time. the electronic song on my sound cloud has more hits & comments than my metal. :redneck:
