I can't do a top 10, but I can list all my favorite types that most modern ones are based on

Muff - Russian, Rams Head, Triangle, Op-amp

Fuzz face - germanium or silicon, though there are hybrid germanium and silicon fuzz faces now too

Buzzaround - originally based on the Tone Bender MKIII, but it's a gated, tight, mean fuzz great for tight metal riffing

Tone Bender - Mk1, MkII, MkIII, Mk1.5 - my favorites are the Mk1 and MkII, the Mk1 is nasty and gated and sweet sounding. I have one called the Doom Bender :xx:

bands that use those types:

Rams Head Muff - Dinosaur Jr., The Obsessed, Melvins, etc.

Fuzz face - Hendrix, The Stooges, etc

Buzzaround - Kyuss, QOTSA

Tone bender Mk1 - The Doors, The Yardbirds

Tone bender MkII - Zeppelin

as I said, most modern fuzzes are variations on those classics

here's pedal pr0n of my Doom Bender, hand made in the UK by Ghost Effects
