Learning bass, easier or the same as learning guitar?

Guys I'm wondering, if you know how to play guitar, is the transition to bass just as simple or is that a different ballgame?

personally, i think if you can play guitar, you can make the transition to bass pretty easily but that doesn't mean you'll instantly be an awesome bass player.

Also depends on the genre.
In funk or blues, or jazz - you can often tell if it's a guitarist playing bass - mainly the little nuances aren't there.
