Lately, I've been using the Engl Blackmore with a 2x12 Cab loaded with Celestion Vintage 30s a lot. I'm sometimes using my old Marshall Valvestate 8100 as well, still sounds surprisingly good. I've since removed the Metal Muff from my signal chain because I have been experimenting with it and came to the conclusion that it is useless as a clean boost. Guitars are not pictured, but I'm mainly using my Epiphone SG Prophecy Custom EX and Jackson Soloist SLSMG tuned to D Standard.

i am curious to know how old it is. i got it at a music shop, everyone loved it there but said no one would buy it because it was old and banged up. i plugged it in and knew i had to have it, so fucking massive sounding, even in my little peavy practice amp. i use a death metal pedal on it too :redneck:

i'm thinking it may be from the 70's  , any bass players got a hunch?

That's a beautiful Firebird bass, rhino! :xx:

I think our own resident Uni777 has a similar bass that he posted, if I remember correctly, in one of the old gear pic threads. Also I think that's his main bass in Thanatos nowadays.

and i checked the serial number on the epiphone site and it says it was made in 2006  . i thought this thing was old-old school. whoever the previous owner or owners were must have been total assholes (the pic really doesnt show the amount of damage, it's really been through the ringer), but like a wounded animal i've taken it in, and it's become a killer bass again, it's got character :tvrky:

I picked up a used Epiphone SG to serve as my backup guitar incase I break a string during a set on my Ibanez (with the floyd copy bridge)

because fuck that string change and tune in the middle of a set.

epiphone SG was my first "real" guitar (i had an unbranded strat copy that i got for $20 prior to that, but it was pretty much unplayable)

that is a fine guitar to have and to play

for real, i haven't had this much fun with an instrument in a very long time. i've been thinking about grabbing the drum machine out of the volca line for shits and giggles, but ended up snagging a recording interface and so probably ought to get a pair of monitors first before i start going nuts with adding more gear

You know how when you're young and you like all the weird shaped guitars and all that extended range fury for the br00talz..

Now that you're getting old (I assume we're all getting old here :oldryan: :alone: ), do you see yourself settling with a much more traditional and 'mature' looking guitar? It's usually either just a strat, les paul, or even a tele. Every guitarist that I've met that 'gets old' has done this. Hell I knew a hard-on bearer who played in bands that covered songs by Bathory and Sepultura back in the day and he had a collection of pointy Jacksons and B.C. Riches. During the 90s, he got into the seven string craze as well as having discovered bands such as Meshuggah and Fear Factory.

He's now 43 years old and he's Into local country music and he plays a tele on a Fender Tweed. :alien:

i have always favored superstrats, only weird shaped guitar i have is a mockingbird that just collects dust. can't really get rid of it in its current state because it has a speedloader bridge and the strings were out of production for ages. apparently floyd is finally selling them again, but with a 30-45 day lead time to ship and cost $16 a pack :oldryan:::::::

I don't think I've ever been into crazy shaped guitars, but I know what you mean. I've seen that shift with a lot of peers here. While I still play a six string, I'm more interested in adding a 7 to my armory than I used to be, so not so much on that front.

the craziest shapes i think i've ever been into are the X shapes like jackson warriors, etc. i still think i'd rather have an x shape or a V over something more traditional

I remember really loving the looks of the B.C. Rich Beast when I was a kid. I really wanted to have one.

Eventually, I bought a guitar and it was an Ibanez RG and now I don't feel like venturing forth from the RG shape. :redneck:

Yeah, when I first started I wanted a BC Rich Warlock so bad, just wanted to me like Mick from Slipknot ffs

Luckily my dad didn't go for the idea when I had no other means.

Aye. Warlocks with EMG 81s in the bridge were his main axes after the recording of Schizo or was it during the recording of Beneath the Remains all the way up to Chaos A.D where, alongside his Warlocks, he started using an SG and the band tuned down one whole step.

I hear he doesn't really take care of his guitars very well and B.C. Rich kind of got frustrated with him always trashing (thrashing) around his guitars.

i read an interview with hetfield back in the day where he said something to the effect of he always liked the look of the warlocks but the first time he played one he discovered they sounded like shit :redneck:

There's a clip on YouTube where Het is using a B.C. Rich in the early gloryhole era , probably on the black album tour.

Ahh yes, That white Jackson King V...I think Jackson was actually trying to get Het on their roster during that time. This was before or during the recording of puppets and I think it even predate's Mustaine's Jackson endorsement (I think Mustaine was still using his B.C. Rich on the first two Megadeth records).

Then the Justice era came. Scott Ian turned Kirk onto ESP and James soon followed. The rest is history.
