Sounds awesome, dude!
Here is the band I play in:

It's not Death metal, but it's pretty cool so far.
I would really like to play in a death metal band. There just aren't many around here.

depends on what youre using. foam ear plugs are worthless. i use these and am quite happy with them:

i've got audiologist made ones. they're shaped to my ear canal. expensive but worth it - just makes everything softer, but still clear

i've got 9 - 10 songs on my solo project thing that i'm wanting to record but i can't at the moment.
and i just got asked by my old guitarists if i'd be interested in getting things started up again. we're just looking for a drummer.
decent drummers without bands are few and far between here.

We went in intending to have the drummer record everything, but after many issues with the recording in general we had to speed things up, which meant programming the drums. We've just started work on the next album, so I'll be sure you keep you in mind when the time comes to record it

Re: Your Current Projects
Recorded guitars for 2 songs yesterday, clients were a band which released their debut under Gorgoroth Infernus' record label last year, quite good band. The ending result was great, and the band were extremely happy with it, which is really rewarding. Good player, and that 6505 roars like splendid mate of mine
Like with anything else, that might also bring more clients my way, which is good.
Also finally finishing that thrash metal album mix that got prolonged. It took ages to finish due to some reasons
Rawk on.

here are some of my tracks (mostly clips). most of these i haven't posted before, some I have.
<!-- m -->http://www.soundcloud.com/cts<!-- m -->
the third track "Fall" was directly inspired from Ulcerates new album, I haven't stopped jamming that album yet.
"Clip-03-Vocals" is my attempt at a low & high vocal mix, very Gateway to Annihilation inspired riffing in the beginning

Re: Your Current Projects
This question will most likely be very asinine, but here goes: I am learning that some of the members on here run recording studios, some of the guys record at home, and the styles are all very different so I would like your opinion. I want to create and record music at home. Currently I have nothing either music equipment wise or recording wise, and this is going to come from scratch. I played bass when I was younger, but it has been 16/17 years at least since I picked it up.
What are some software packages, or tips, you can recommend to a rank amateur such as myself for haveing a home recording studio with a low budget?
My bass playing mainly consisted of just learning a few songs I really enjoyed and playing covers with a couple of friends, mostly early Metallica and Slayer. (Shortly after discovering Morbid Angel is when all my equipment got stolen and threw a real monekywrench in plans, I wrote about that shit in my intro) I never was able to get very involved with actually LEARNING music (ie reading notes, theory, when to use certain scales, why the tone makes a difference, playing in key, etc) . My plan is too start next month with a local musician and take formal lessons. I want to do this so i can get feedback and try to actually learn what all goes into creating music. Maybe I am over thinking the entire concept, but there is a real beauty to when music no matter the genre, is created, (not noise, but music). I am going to buy a cheap bass from my local pawnshop for about $100 and a little practice amp for another $50. A work colleague suggested I buy an iPad and get iGarageband or something like that.
Anywho, getting long winded today. It has been a dream for a long time to make my own music: bass, guitar, drums, vocals, the entire kit and caboodle. If I need to move this to another forum let me know.

I plug my guitar directly into my laptop, record in Kristal (though switching to Reaper) and use a VST amp modeling filter. I sequence the drum lines in FL Studio 9.

DON'T buy an iPad. Especially not for these kind of things.
There are many cheap audio interfaces out there that have a 1/4" jack line-in and a USB connection to your computer or laptop. Most of the time such interfaces also have a microphone XLR input, but if you just want to record bass, a line input is all you need. I suggest you search for such an audio interface instead of simply plugging in your instrument directly into your computer. This, because the A/D (Analog/Digital) conversion won't be so good, you'd have a very high noise floor and almost no headroom, plus a lot of signal loss - in layman's terms: it's worse.
Anyway, once you obtain an audio interface you can look at the software options. Are you on a PC or a Mac? For both there's many different options, but I think Reaper is the program a lot of people use. Not sure if it's free but not expensive at least. Then there's Fruity Loops (which I hate), Nuendo and Cubase (almost the same - same manufacturer) it's a good piece of software. For Mac I think Logic 9 is one of the easiest programs to start with.
I work with Pro Tools myself (available for Mac and PC) but it's pretty expensive for a starter and none of the cracked versions work properly. I believe Pro Tools is the best piece of software for what I do, which is recording, editing, mixing and mastering. It's amazingly stable, fast, reliable and just fits my entire workflow. But this is also personal to everyone. I simply need that quick pase (because I know the software through and through) and reliability for my studio. Not to say that programs like Cubase, Nuendo or Logic aren't reliable; lots of studios work with them.
So basically, search for a cheap but nice USB (or Firewire - but those are a little more expensive most of the time) audio interface and check out some software packages on the web. Personally, I'm not very aware of all the different USB audio interfaces that are in the market right now - but there are folks on here that can surely help you with that.

@ Conservative
All the clips on my Soundcloud page were recorded with a T.C. Electronic: Desktop Konnekt 6 Recording Interface. I managed to snag one from eBay for only $120.00 (list price $200)
All the effect (distortion, reverb, delay) are emulated via GuitarRig or Amplitude, if you're not familiar with those they are VST plugins for recording programs to emulate effects, amps, etc. I also use EZDrummer or Addictive Drums (more VST plugins) for all the drumming. And my music program of choice is Cubase 5. Everything downloaded from torrents btw.

FYI: VST are the plugins that run on programs such as Cubase and Nuendo.
Logic takes AU and VST. Pro Tools takes RTAS, TDM and VST.
