Re: Your Current Projects
Thank you
Sweet! So if I am reading correctly, 1. a good interface device that is made for music to plug into computer, 2. then software package, which when using the right modules can produce the varying types of sound (ie distortion, compression, Wha!, etc.) thus there would be no need to buy actual effect pedals, since I would not be playing in a band or really "live" for some time, the software packages y'all have recommended would be able to do the same thing.
@Void: Would the audio interface actually be between my practice amp and the PC so I can listen through the amp or would it be completely via the PC sound system? And since I do want to eventually record guitar parts as well as voice, the XLR interface feature should be a requirement of the interface device?
@Zim: The plugins are separate modules. Is this a standard that works with any recording package, or would I need to be weary of brand specific ones? AmpliTube are the modules that would plugin to a package such as Reaper?
@Pulsar: yeah, I am catching that
Then I could begin some sampling, post on here for you guys to rip apart, give a good bitch slap or two, but ultimately lightly steer in a better direction?
I will call my first song: I was Morbid, now hear me roar like a kitten as I frag on Level 13 like the good ole days. -- sorry for that last smart-ass bit of snark, still can't let that crap go I guess

Re: Your Current Projects
The VST plugins I listed will work with any program that supports VST plugins. Reaper does, Cubase does, most decent ones do.
Most interfaces have a headphone jack and/or monitor jacks. You can plug your guitar straight into it or mic it using the XLR input. Either way you'll need headphones or monitors.

Re: Your Current Projects
And yes you can use your amp. But the amp would need to have a line-out, and you should check the impedance of the line-out and of the interface so you don't short-circuit or overheat any circuits. Example; using an 8 Ohm impedance output from your amp to a 16 Ohm input of the cabinet will cause your amp to say "kaboom!" after a while
Anyway, like Zim said; just directly input your instrument into the interface and you're good to go! GuitarRig (2, 3 or 4) have some very nice effects and amp/cab simulations as well as AmpliTube and SansAmp.
If you want to record vocals or anything else with a mic, yes you will need an XLR input as well. But some interfaces have a combined XLR/Jack input, which will look like this (upper 2 inputs):
rather than a normal XLR input:

Re: Your Current Projects
pretty sure this, in black & white:
I'm a fender man, and on a limited budget now and my band mate works at fender so a good discount.
got it primarily for Serious Beak (prog/grind band) but will also use in Slimeys & normal cover gigs etc...

Fender is awesome. I don't really like the feel of their stratocasters, because of the round fretboard, but they can sound amazing.
I do really like their bass guitars.

Re: Your Current Projects
Gonna do vocals tomorrow and the day after.
Then Void has his work cut out for him.
After that we HAVE to find a label to release it. As it is Void his final piece of work for his study it needs to be released officially.
The labels interested can expect a fully finished mixed and mastered MCD with complete artwork already finished. I think ill make a 2 or 3 track promo for labels only to shop around.
For me personally i just like the thing released so i can use it to create some interest for gigging...

A label with the intention to get the music out there, with decent distribution and advertising options. i do not expect any financial profit but i want the name of the band out there thus creating chances for gigging. And a full release in the future.
