lessons have been a massive boost for motivation to do things on guitar but i can't stay focused on one project for more than a day at a time

now onto learning/transcribing this:

it's also hell because this is way more fun than doing my other classes, which i've been neglecting in a serious fashion :redneck:

It's just the amen break, chopped up :redneck:

I'm just using fruity loops, some free vst/synths and some samples stolen from youtube videos :redneck:

I figured once I get better I'll venture out into more 'professional' type programs and stuff. But so far so good.

Thank you for the feedback, it's cool to hear something for once, none of my friends are really interested whenever I ask for opinion or whatever.

Shit be's updated and a little longer, but still not done. Really starting to struggle with the structure now :redneck: I feel it should be a little longer, but don't wanna repeat the sections too much. Maybe have a re-emergance of the intro low pitched bells or something?

Re: Your Current Projects

as usual, nothing original, but here's a couple of the tunes i learned over my first chunk of lessons:

that's about the same tempo i've been playing the brouwer piece at, although it is meant to be played quite a bit faster (and most of the youtube examples are). i'm not currently good enough to do that though, and it's actually quite musical when played slower; the faster renditions kind of reduce it to a technical exercise. also, it was the basis for the title track on diary of a madman.

i've committed the arcas piece to memory, but my execution on that song is still really poor. probably not a great piece to choose as a beginner, but it's fun to play, and having something challenging that i can actually make progress on is definitely useful as well.

I think what made something an etude originally was something to do with it being a technical exercise. I think I read that somewhere where someone was saying how Chopin was such a big cocking revolution because his etudes are some of the first ones that were also performance pieces.

yeah, that's my understanding of it as well. haven't looked at many of his other etudes, but that's the only one i know of that has a rather musical quality to it

just keep trying new things, it's all experimentation. I'll add this to the 'expand and finish' pile :redneck:

if I can manage to write some lyrics I'm gonna record a death metal track that I've had in the works for about 2 or 3 god damned years. I suck at finishing shit.

thanks! i have no idea what synths i used - i will find out later though as it's still on my old hard drive. the drums are XLN Audio - Addictive Drums with some filters/eq adjustments.

what DAW are you using to create your music?

freaking fruity loops with stock sounds and whatever samples I can plunder from youtube and my music collection hahaha :redneck:

all very messy and ghetto. I've just downloaded massive, which seems to be the go to vst for alot of people, so I'll try and learn how to use that at some point.

i used Cubase 5. i used some of the stock synths but i downloaded a couple more. never got around to using samples in my stuff though
