Mastering is really important in FL studio. On the master track, boost the overall sound with the FL overdrive plugin coupled with some EQ (use two EQs - one to find the perfect overall sound you like and another to kill the very top and bottom levels to avoid peaking)
The main reason for FL's muddiness is it's low volume output.

Serious Beak have finished writing 1 new song which goes for something like 15mins and have started on a new song which could be described as "Danny Gatton goes Doom/grind".

Re: Your Current Projects
Track I've been working on somewhat more seriously. Contains a sample from that Tunak Tunak Tun hard-on bearer and an Akercocke track, pretty random, but sounding cool.
Mainly using it for practicing getting more creative with break beats. Also, need to start practicing making better bass lines/sound.

Re: Your Current Projects
I'm in a band by myself (no, it's not black metal) called Treeweaver. The link to the bandcamp page is in my signature. I have a demo and I'm writing a full album right now, which is over half way done. There is a preview song up on the page right now but it doesn't have any vocals, just drums and guitar. I play guitar but I use Drumkit from Hell to program drums because I don't have the ability, physical space, or cash for a drum set and I don't know anyone who plays drums.

You need to work on your production, mang. How are you recording your guitars and what are you using to mix?

Re: Your Current Projects
I'm using a webcam microphone right now - I don't really have any other options than that aside from doing a line-in recording, and I don't like the tone I get from doing that. I use Audacity to mix everything together and I use Reaper along with Drumkit from Hell to make the drum parts.
I'm working with a pretty bare bones set up, I know - but I don't have much else to work with at the moment.
Thank you for listening by the way!

It sounds like you have some cool ideas but you need to save some money and buy a guitar interface to record with!

Re: Your Current Projects
Yeah I've needed some new guitar stuff for a while. I've had the same one for three years. I actually had to get it repaired this past week - the input jack got all fucked up. :(
Thank you though, I appreciate the comments.
EDIT: I actually just uploaded a version of that song with different production so if you see this and choose to listen to the updated version I'd love to hear more opinions.

I think the recording quality is good, lends it a dungeon-y character. Not everything has to be sterile and produced to perfection.

From a gig about a month back.
A tune I wrote, that was originally done as part of my remix project and worked it for this band.
http://www.amfrequencies.com/blog/2013/ ... -volume-6/
and another track from the same gig - I wrote this song in about 1999.
It only now managed to see the light of day.
Just an easy little bluesy shuffle thing.

Re: Your Current Projects
I'm writing and recording the first full-length album for Treeweaver.
http://treeweaver.bandcamp.com
I have two demos and one single out with the band right now. Just me doing all the writing and recording at the moment, eventually when I have the means I'm going to re-record most of this material with all analog equipment and go for the type of production on FFttF. The music itself is a mix between black metal, death metal, psychedelic doom/stoner metal, and thrash metal. Writing and arrangement style is pretty stream of consciousness, or "use once and destroy". Definitely trying to do something new with these jams. The first album will have some dope cover art drawn for it by someone who is actually good at drawing (unlike me). All in all I'm very stoked about this project.

well keep practicing then!
speaking of guitar solos, i almost never think of them these days in my music. i feel like so many guitarists cram them into song s just because they want to and not because it compliments the song in anyway. food for thought

Re: Your Current Projects
I appreciate the feedback. I had a lot of fun writing and recording Kykeon, solos included, and I think they complement the song perfectly and go along with the flow of it. I was listening to a lot of the later Death material at the time, and felt inspired to compile some of my greatest death/thrash riffs into a song and let loose with some fretboard fury as much as possible for the duration of the track. I had just finished making a more simplistic black metal release before making Kykeon, so I was very compelled to make as many technical riffs and big shreds as I could.
