de mysteriis, no question...although my second favorite would be chimera which is heavily underrated as there are damn good riffs on that record

Re: Mayhem
DMDS will always be my favorite but i love pretty much everything they did (except for chimera)
well up until the last one which i don't think i ever listened to. esoteric warfare was it? i dunno. last one i got was ordo ad chao which was also very good! i saw them on tour for that album and was very excited because marduk was supporting but had visa issues and couldn't enter the country so i didn't have to see them

Grand Declaration of War is my favorite. I’ve seen Mayhem last year, they played DMDS only and it was great show!

Glad they are appreciated here
I love Ordo ad Chao and Esoteric Warfare.
Grand Declaration is also very good. I'm going to check more of their work.

Re: Mayhem
i'm actually surprised at how many people seem to enjoy grand declaration, it's such a weird-ass album (which i also enjoy a great deal!), especially compared to everything else they did up to that point. i guess that was roughly the same time all the earlier BM bands were going off on weird tangents though, so not all that out of character, either.

Re: Mayhem
I generally like wierd albums. Orthodox black metallers here used to beat people wearing Grand Declaration tshists in early 2000. I avoided being beaten/robbed of shirt back then since I’m a sexy leopard elevator = person that doesn’t know shit about music. Fun fact - people who admitted to be „true”back then don’t listen to metal anymore. Fuck them! GDoW is one of the most amazing albums of early 2000.

Chimera has amazing riffs
Not a big fan of Maniac's vocals during that period.

i am actually a big fan of the late gloryhole era /2000s maniac, much moreso than his performances on deathcrush
the second time i saw them in 2001 though he was trashed, they went on 2 hours late and he was atrocious

Re: Mayhem
Attila is really something else Saw them at fruital assault. They had a stage screen with drum cam, Hellhammer was impressive And they played here once with Maniac, he has a different style very cold That club doesn't get bands like Mayhem anymore

Re: Mayhem
i like dmds, best of the 2nd wave big black metal albums for me by a country mile. I can live without the rest.
Saw them live recently and it was a snorefest though. They were fucking up hard, they do not sound very tight live.
