Recently watched movies

Post by Paste Human »

Earlier tonight I watched Spirited Away. I'm happy to have seen it, but it didn't really speak to me the way it apparently has with other people. I was very surprised to learn how much of a smash hit this was.

I also watched "Milk" and "The Imitation Game" which I thought were pretty solid films :santa:

I made it through the first half of Putney Swope (it's free on youtube) and liked what I was seeing but had to cut it short because I needed to take care of a few things. Maybe I'll watch the rest tonight.

I liked Trainwreck and The age of Adeline  And Manchester by the sea, I'm in a gay type of mood I guess. Lost of movies I started on but couldn't finish, like Doctor Strange  The new Alien was weak too :frown: That lead actress was just boring

I saw new Alien, ehhhhh it was OK, could have been worse. It was a step in the right direction.

Also rewatched Dead Alive (Braindead) for first time in years

Just got a projector last Friday so my movie watching will likely kick back into high gear in the coming weeks. Watched Predator, G.host in the Shell (anime) and Body Snatchers over the weekend.

I fucking loved it. I actually watched it twice before the rental ran out. Definitely going to pick it up and on bluray whenever its released.

The blackcoats daughter came out today. You seen that? Going to pick it up before leaving work. Best movie I've seen since the witch.

Trainspotting 2...although enjoyable, I thought the ending was kinda lame. Obviously, the nostalgia factor of seeing them together again is the major draw of this film.

I thought this was some gay musical... well I guess it is. But a very powerful gay musical with two lovely young stars and it's visually very pretty :greenie: With entertaining discussion of the arts. I wish I had gone earlier :wall: From the maker of Whiplash :xx: But with a strong Woody Allen influence I would say, lots of romance and jazz :bulb:

Watched the ritual on Netflix last night. Damn good movie. It's like a mix of the Blair witch project and the witch. The creature is really cool too.

Also if you are really interested in it or going to watch it, do NOT watch the trailer. Gives away too much.

As a long time fan of the manga, I was suuuuuper skeptical about it successfully being squished into a 2 and a half hour film. Takashi Miike fuuuuckin' pulled it off. If you're going to hack up BotI and condense it into a feature film, that's exactly how you do it. :xx:::;;;

Blame! (on nettoflixu): 5/10. interesting idea, bad execution
The Death of Stalin: 7-7,5/10. funny movie, turns pretty dark in the last 15minutes
Ernest & Celestine: 7/10. charming little cartoon. a bit too much "for kids"
Sowrd of the Stranger: 5,5-6/10. points for getting right the vibe and aesthetics of Edo Japan without resorting to anime shenanigans. minus points for boring characters, story and resorting to anime shenanigans during battles

Annihilation: had some hopes due to Garland directing, but it turns out it only has some decently good visuals during the middle, a very very boring beginning, and a borderline nonsensical pretentious ending. the "bear" monster was awesome. 5/10

Seen that in theatrical play form a few years back. Good story driven evening but was kinda disenfranchised by some of the local actor participation. Do you happen to have recommendations for a dvd/streaming format you could recommend?
