for business and pleasure. the wife and I have been talking about possibly moving here for a while and thought we ought to check it out. currently it's 36F and fall is in full swing - there is a good chance of the seasons first snowfall in the next few days as well. I've been in snow before (skiing) but I've never really experienced fall living in Florida so this is nice - lots of colors on the trees still.

the plane trip was interesting - I haven't flown anywhere in years so it was quite an experience doing it during these times. the plane was half empty with everyone spaced out, face masks required during the entire trip. probably the most memorable flight Ive ever been on because people were very orderly and polite getting on and off the plane. between the two of us I think we went through half a 8oz bottle of sanitizer.... staying in a "sonder" apartment which is kind of like airbnb.

interestingly enough - weeks after we booked this trip a job opportunity within my company presented itself - so I set up an informal meeting and plan to do some due diligence while i'm here. the wife also has some opportunities present themselves days before we were set to leave so we will pursuing those as well.

it depends, i think. from what I've found - Minnesota has a state income tax (Florida doesn't) but you have a government that actually functions for the most part (unlike Florida). The house prices are about the same but the average wage is higher in Minnesota. so in the end it probably ends up being similar.

2022 is probably actually enough time for me to start driving and get comfortable doing a trip life that

i've actually been building my credit (up from the fucking pit) and i'm at a good place to get a nice car now, that's the goal for next year

Minneapolis is for sure a hop on a plane trip for me. It'd be something like 16-17 1/2 hours (not including stops) depending on if you go on toll roads or not.

had the opportunity to drive in a winter storm on Tuesday (during rush hour too so a 25 minute drive turned into nearly an hour). that was my rental after just 4 hours of snow accumulation. I think I handled in pretty well - several cars along the road had crashed into ditches... but I made it back safely.

had an 8 person panel interview today.

there were two other candidates. I went first and learned a few hours later that I didn't get the job.

but... I was told that they were very impressed with my interview and the research that I did prior. They also asked my permission to share my resume with the other stores in the area and if I would be interested in maybe going to another department if an opportunity presented itself (I let them know yes but that it would depend on which department because that is a very short list). overall very positive and constructive feedback, which was nice.

so even though it didn't work out this time - there's still a chance of something in the near future.
