hell no, this was in late june (and it was freakishly good weather - never oppressively hot or humid and it only rained once in the 4-5 days i was there). i was helping him move down there, we road tripped it over the course of 2 days

we did a walk up bourbon st the first night we were there and i don't think i would ever willingly return

I don’t like New Orleans except for the WWII museum. Having family that lives there makes me see things differently though.

To me it is dirty, sticky, and hot. The “danger” doesn’t bother me because that’s every American city.

We just had three shootings across the street and a bunch of break ins, all drug related. Crime is a part of life in America.

it is all of those things sure but there's all sorts of neat places to eat and drink and see. and i didn't get to see very much of it on account of only being there a few short days

i definitely had a crazy homeless woman shouting angrily at me when i was walking up the street to grab a cawfee one morning. that was interesting but not really a big deal

Homeless is part of our major cities here. Only time they are a problem is if you are on public transportation and cannot get away. Sometimes they escalate and create issues because the general public doesn’t understand you do not yell back at the mentally ill or someone who is clearly intoxicated or high. Safest thing is to not react and give distance.

I sound so heartless but I am aware they are people and a lot of the reasons homelessness is rising isn’t anyone’s fault. It’s a complex, heartbreaking issue with no easy answers.

I can’t eat at most restaurants and am not a big drinker it’s probably why I’m not a big New Orleans fan. I am testng again to see if gluten and a few other things really are unsafe for me to eat/cause migraines.

i don't think there's really a big disconnect between recognizing the humanity of homeless people and the practical necessity to pay no mind to someone getting all belligerent. there's no form of engagement in that situation that will help them or you. it is tragic. and its runaway growth is a symptom of a completely broken society that views its citizens as disposable and treats them accordingly

i would like to have the fizzy gin drink they made in the carousel bar. that was very good
