this whole year has been kinda dogshit, i spent most of the first half dealing with a debilitating dermatological condition while also having to contend with my upstairs neighbors deciding to sublet to a family of four, which included three young and very stompy children (these apartments are all of ~600sqft - two adults and an indoor dog is already a stretch). then as soon as things were starting to look up, i then proceeded to injure myself a few weeks ago :redneck:

but i am mostly recovered from that last episode, the subletters were forced to vacate, and i finally have my skin pretty much fully under control. things are actually sorta looking up (so long as one doesn't consider the global geopolitical-economic catastrophe presently unfolding)

skin shit, that doesn't sound fun. the only skin shit i ever had to deal with is like jock itch. i had one rabid tinea sort of funghi break out earlier this year when i didn't shower after playing badminton but i got it under control quick smart with the antifungals. was pretty scary quick tho the way it popped up.

and it's winter in australia :redneck:

Put a new and taller fence up in my back yard at the beginning of June. My dog only got to enjoy it for a few weeks before I had to unexpectedly put her down 2 weeks ago due to an unknown (at the time) medical complication, she was only 12 and I had her for 11 of those years. Shit sucks, I've lost 3 pets in the last 2 years, though I did get 2 new cats at the beginning of this year. Don't think I'm quite ready for another dog just yet, but the day will come. Besides that it's been hot as shit, wildfire smoke has come and gone, and the US economy is on the verge of doing something quite stupid and disastrous. :santa:

7 months into my new, first fully-remote/WFH job (previous employer had a hybrid setup). I don't ever want to be in an office space again. I don't ever want to see colleagues in the flesh ever again. Working in solitude for life. :grim:

it turned out to be an atypical case of seborrhoiec dermatitis which is also a fungal thing, and after getting a proper diagnosis and treatment plan it's like 90% cleared and generally no longer symptomatic at all. it started back in early february and whenever i'd go into a flare-up, it was so severe that it rendered me almost entirely non-functional. couldn't work, sleep, read, watch stuff or work out because the symptoms were so intense, you have no ability to concentrate or think at all just as a baseline. i was on and off prednisone for most of the first half of the year as a result, just to stay semi-functional while waiting for a dermatology appointment, since most derms are booked out at least 6 months. i got lucky and landed mine in about 4 months with an emergency referral

i've been working from home for about 6 years now. it's great but it has risks like getting fat, lazy, and isolated. don't forget to sit in the sun sometimes :redneck:

It seems like 2025 and 2026 have not gone well for a lot of friends on the forum. So first of all, my sympathies for all your troubles. But you must persevere and keep your hope alive. Although not all your dreams and aspirations may be realized, you must ensure your own survival and not let yourself be overwhelmed. Find solutions to your problems, and fuck everything else.

Things are going fantastic with the lady. Kids go back to school (6th and 9th grade) in a couple weeks. Work could certainly be busier to help with financial doings but I'm mostly getting by.

Lots of heat related naps here also. I considered buying a house but it's not doable. Feels dumb just saving up money but I guess I shouldn't complain about that too much. 12 years to go and I'm a pensioner, that's about half the period I spent on MABB.

Well, found out that I have diabetes a couple months ago, so been dealing with that. On meds, exercising, and diet control these days, and have managed to get the numbers down considerably. The fasting and post-meal numbers were really, really bad initially.

Yup, as much as I can manage. Have my HBA1C test scheduled for later in the month. Will find out what's what then, but my daily fasting and post-meal numbers are down by quite a bit compared to some months back when I found out I had diabetes. Fasting was at 270 mg/dl, and post-meal was around 400. Really fucked my head up.

I went to a cardiologist last month. Since I have a family history and my test results weren't that good, I've been put on cholesterol lowering medication for life.
