i would call it a pessimistic view more than cynical. i am unfortunately quite confident in the overall assessment, however.

Soon to be reading "Running the Light" by Sam Tallent. Just waiting for it to arrive. I've heard really good things about it, and recently found out that he's a fine comic.

started aberration in the heartland of the real by wendy painting, which began as a phd dissertation about timothy mcveigh and turned into a sprawling investigatory tome. the publisher traffics in a lot of crank shit, but this seems like a rare gem out of their collection. i am excited

finished the road to 9/11 by peter dale scott last week, it made me dizzy. a nonstop barrage of names and places and incidents. probably the best centralized collection of info regarding the political and foreign policy history that preceded the attacks, reaching as far back as the 40s and the creation of the OPC. the most interesting stretch begins with carter's (at the behest of brzezinski) commencement of arming and funding the mujahideen to instigate the soviet invasion of afghanistan, which begins a thread that runs all the way through the clinton administration
as a fun bonus, you also discover the policy origins that birthed the 'FEMA camps!' currents within various conspiracy movements

Re: now reading 2.0
dusty do you have any thoughts about AI generated articles/news/etc? the other day i started to wonder what will happen when ai is good enough to write college papers that will fool professors, how do we solve that problem. the tech might not be there right now but i believe it's only a matter of time

i was thinking the same thing. i was also thinking that at some point in the future the first essay will always be handwritten and that will be used as a control to compare against electronically submitted work

AI written essays will have to have a built in error margin, otherwise they won't be believable. I'm sure even people like dusto make the occasional mistake.

Re: now reading 2.0
oh for sure, the tech is already there. a lot of ai text generators have a "chaos" dial that lets you determine how much freedom you want to give the ai. i imagine there will be systems where you can feed them material you've produced and it will match it in a nearly identical way

Some special people in this. The record is 45 games of simultaneous blindfold chess! Sometimes funny too. Now I'm playing some blindfold chess myself but it's really bad But a nice way to practice
